Question Anyone any ideas

ANy one have any mild idea how to get anymore power from a 1275 gt mini engine. The engine is out and the mods have to be relatively cheap.

Try an RST engine in the back depends how handy u are and if ur doing the work yourself, otherwise mods are never cheap

Where to start

A bit of diy porting and polishing wouldn't do any harm.

A replacement performance camshaft from Kent or Piper is always worthwhile.

Bin the standard carb and try and get hold of a Webber 28/36 dcd twin choke downdraft with an alloy waterheated inlet and performance filter.

An LCB exhaust manifold and straight through exhaust is a must.

That lot shouldn't be too expensive, and will be worthwhile.

LOL, well, ok, you could still get an MG turbo engine or the bits to convert your own engine for a fair(ish) price. Forget the rest then.

Swiftune SW5 Cam kit.
Then later on you can get a flowed head etc, don't bother with the weber, cheaper and easier to use an SU, make sure you use a decent K+N Filter.
Decent inlet and LCB manifold, shouldn't break the bank

I've never tuned a Mini, so I asked a mate of mine. He said...

On the cheap....

LCB Exhaust Manifold and Straight through system (£95.00 odd)
Port and Polish the Cylinder head, but don't go too mad (free!!)
Lighten and Polish the Conrods, weighing each with accurate scales
(balancing, increased strength & reliability @ high revs... also free!)
Skim the Cylinder head (increases the compression ratio & power, about
£40.00)
Fettle the inlet manifold (free)
If you're really up to it..... port the standard SU carburettor... also
free!
