Red face

Read this in the paper the other day, they were comparing average charges throughout the country.

What's shocking is that muppets actually pay this, presumably the dealer will continue to charge high amounts if people are willing to pay - who wouldn't?

I find it quite amusing when i read about this sort of thing as my mate is a mechanic at BMW and still on an apprenticeship, although he has been there almost 3 years. If you take your car in for a service it is very likely that he will perform it. He earns about £4.50 an hour. So where does the £148.15 an hour go? Exacly how much do they pay for rent of premises, electricity etc?

Ridiculous.

I agree

I went to a BMW shop a while ago, doing some research into satnav systems for a piece of work. The thing about it though, was that the atmosphere in the showroom was just so sh1tty. As if I wasn't good enough to be in there or summat. They didn't seem at all bothered that they couldn't give me any information about their system at all, and neither had time, or any interest in what I was trying to find out.

The Jaguar garage on the other hand, was spot one, and took me out in an S-type R, the only car that had it. Very nice it was too

That's what I like to see. Common courtesy, in every walk of life. Whether I was out to buy a BMW or not, which I'm certainly not, they shouldn't be trying to make the whole thing so 'exclusive' that nobody wants to go there.

[rant over. I'm off to the BMW shop....] or not

The thing is, some peope are so loaded, stupid or because its a company car they'll pay it.

South London has the highest prices - now why doesn't that surprise me?

IMO, most main dealers (BMW, Subaru, Jaguar, Ford etc) charge excessively, weather it be labour or parts. Can't beat getting your own hands grubby

Oi - shut it!

I thought all franchised dealers had a menu of prices that were standard depending on the work being carried out?

Like Tiggers, the Beemer dealer I use knocks spots off the Scoob dealer in terms of customer service and car presentation which is something that many dealers could learn from.

chavs clogging up the bemmer showroom to look at M3's they dont think are value for money are like people hanging round the car park of The Waterside with Burgerking takeouts saying they like the setting but would rather have their vaule for money grub!

both should be cleared from my path

Im convinced that BMW have some sort of policy of completly ignoring you if you not in a suite. I went to my local showroom for a look around and was ignored for 30 mins before leaving. True, I had jeans on and a denim jacket and was looking at 40k motors but its still anoying. When I win the lottery im going back in the same clothes and hopefully i will be ignored again. On the way out I will wave 40k cash at them and explain to them they have just lost an M3 sale

I have to defend them interms of servicing etc. Their roadside assistance thing is superb. Dads battery flat, within 20 mins of call, they pull up outside house and 10 mins later prob is sorted. Can't argue at that service.

Think that all major dealers with high per hour charges are being looked into by the monopolies commission or some one like that. The insurance /lease/after market guarantee companies have demanded this after excessive charges. I mean you blow an engine up on a BMW and your looking at min £4000

First time I went to my local BMW dealer, they looked at me as if I'd walked into the wrong showroom, didn't like a 19 year old being in there. Attitude changed when they found out I was dropping off an M3 convertable for service. Couldn't have been nicer when I went back tho and always are now.
