Anyone owned an evo 4???
Hi all, I have seen an evo 4 im very interested in, does anyone have any feelings towards these? I have heard that the fuel consumption is worse that a scooby, is this true? how do they run and handle in comparison to an sti 7? Any advice gratefully accepted

I owned an EVO IV about 3 years ago and it was a cracking motor, the only problems I experienced was people trying to nick it and the difficulty in sourcing parts.
It took me 3 months to get a silver replacement door handle!!!
The running costs are very high, this is due to 6000 service intervals, having to change the AYC fluid, poor fuel consmption....20ish MPG at best and a nightmare to insure even on a traders policy!!
But it was a very rewarding car to drive, very strong power delivery and reasonably light weight with a very c/r gear box. The only weak point are the brakes which are standard Mitsuibishi 4 pots on the front which start to fade very quickly.
The one thing I have noticed is how they've held their price, I struggled to sell mine for 10K 3 years ago and you'll struggle to find one for 10K today!!!
IMHO the EVO is not as rewarding as my 1995 STI RA.

Almost bought a silver evoIV, but the dealership let themselves down badly!
When I went to take a test drive they told me that they couldn't get it started because of a problem with the spark plugs.
I told them I would visit the following weekend for a test drive, but they still hadn't sorted the car out.
Anyway, when I phoned back about 3 months later, the same car was still for sale and guess what, it still wouldn't start. Apparently they were having problems sourcing spark plugs! Don't know enough about them to say whether I believe them or not, but it's worth knowing about if you are considering buying one.
Finished up buying a scoob and haven't regretted it one bit!
Still like the evo and will perhaps buy one in the future.
Good luck m8

If you can stretch to it, get an EVO V - They made quite a few improvements from IV to V including bigger Brembo brakes, wider 17" wheels, extra torque, much beefier bodykit, uprated mechanical components, new ecu etc.

Evo 4's definatly handle better than the scoobi
they sit down at the back when cornering similar to a well sorted group 4 mk2 escort
they do use more fuel than a impreza
the active yaw oil only needs doing once a year unless you hear squeaking from the rear diff-our local mitsu dealer charges £45 for the yaw oil change all in
some cars you see advertised for around 9k can be dogs with scuffs and scrapes or heavily modified and thrashed
just pick a nice clean one and you will have no probs
evo has alot more bottom end torque than any scooby and feels more punchy out of the bends as a result
they will hold value as the new esva rules make it very expensive to import from now on and there is as yet no european type approval for the 4 or 5 mitsu lancer evo
I have a TME 6.5 coming in 2 months for my partner so her IV is up for sale
you wont regret buying one thats for sure

im refering to std scoobys
scoobys are abit hollow for initial punch im not slaging them as i have owned 4 and my rallycar to be is a sti-ra 96 with cusco diffs rosejointed suspension bla bla bla
i do like my scoobys buy her indoors has the evo 4 and i have to admit that they win in the performance stakes for midrange punch which is what you use in general brisk driving the chassi is also better as scoobys wash out at the front alot more the evo feels tighter
the end of the day imprezas and evo's do the same thing but get there in a different manner some ppl prefer one or the other but they are both very good at what they do
hows that for sitting on a fence!!!
