I need a new car...not a scoob :(
Scoob has gotta go, it's 3 year term is up.
Now, been brainstorming on what to get as an everyday car, but I really am struggling on this. I've scrapped the Nissan and I'm resorting back to scoob as an everyday car at the mo.
But the scoob is
a) Too costly to run
b) Is immaculate and will fastly degrade thanks to all the inconsiderate scum in the car parks
c) Not a car which I like to leave on a pub car park overnight if i decide to walk home.
So, it's going I may get something mad for the weekends
But what do I get as an everyday car?
Budget is £8000 can push a little higher but not by much. Need something that is:
a) economical (average min 30mpg)
b) not desirable, but not something that I'll get laughed at in
c) Quickish (0-60 circa 9 secs, good 50-70 etc)
Size is not important, and I'm not bothered about getting something with mint bodywork anymore (I've got so tired and fed up with trying to keep them like that).
So what TF do I get?
Was thinking a Passat TDi 130 SE with about 70K on the clock and fit some nice alloys and sports suspension. And a visit to Jabbasport.
Failing that a Alfa 156 JTD, just very concerned with reliability
Integra Type R (more like it ). But possibly back to the desirability problem
Old Porker 911 mid 80's coupé, just alot of junk out there now, many huge mileages, and an aging car. mpg will be a struggle, but are still far better than scoobs round town. Probably slight out the price range too
Anyone got any other suggestion?
Cheers

.. or how about a classic Merc 300E - 3 litre - built like a tank, cost between £2k and £3k for a low mileage one.. classic car insurance - £200 to £300 per year

Ooo err.
This is where I get picky
Beamer, if I had one would have to be current shape 3 series or the old 5....out of my budget 2.5/2.2's bit too thristy. And I don't believe in 318's as an ultimate driving machine Older shapes seem too over priced for such a flooded market IMO
Renault 172, with the amount of trouble my uncle has had with his...I'd rather not have the hassle. I have an issue with french cars TBH. But may make an exception if I can get a cheap Gti-6
Merc, built like a tank - drives like a tank, And it'll remind me of all those scary journeys by carlos the suicidal taxi driver on holiday
200sx, kid next door has one, so no on principal. Plus I said 30mpg not 20
But I am a coupe/saloon man, more so than hot hatches
Civic...I would so much prefer a CTR, could I handle it's kinship to a Rover 45?
Saab hmmm, I need to look into that. Would have thought the low CR assosiated with turbo'd engines would make it a bit too inefficient round town (from experience )
Thanks so far...
anything else that take my fancy?

What about a Skoda Octavia RS? They've got some go, are a decent size and are pretty economical. There is a Y reg with 25k on it for sale on Briskoda for about £8.5 link is at: http://www.briskoda.net/forums/showthread.php?t=9259

How about my Ford Focus ST170?
Silver, comfort pack, July 02, 18k miles, immaculate, polished every month with Swissol. A snip at £11k!
A silver Focus looks pretty much like any other Focus, except the ST is a little special.
Regards
Nick
