Used to have a 1992 318.
By the time I got rid, it had 125,000 mls on the clock.
Replaced timing belt twice, discs and pads twice, drive shaft once, exhaust once.
These were the most expensive repairs. However I got rid of it coz I then found out I needed to replace the rear trailing arms, another timing belt, more brakes! to get it through it's MOT.
If you need stuff done, don't go to a main dealer. You will get shafted!
Loved every minute of ownership right enough, just a bit too slow in the end.
Upgraded to a scoob

Woah. My 318i has clocked 175'000+ miles, with original clutch (yes the clutch showing its age now though). I haven't had the problems you mentioned there, you must be really unlucky!

I don't know how much of it was bad luck and how much was just naivity on my part.
Maybe a bit too trusting of the dealership.
Won't happen again, I think I'll be steering clear of dealerships for servicing/repairs from now on.
Anyway, glad to hear you are enjoying yours.

I had a 1988 316 (it was an 1800 non injection). Loved the car, kept it over 3 years, but the head gasket went on it, the hydraulic piston went that sits just behind the clutch pedal, and the clutch itself collapsed (not at the same time as the hydraulic thing). It was also dog slow.

But I liked it. Traded it in, then 6 months later, got a letter off some insurance company asking what condition it was in when I got rid of it, and what mileage was on it. I think it had been knicked, and they were going to pay out on it. I told them the truth btw (excellent condition, below average miles, hope the new owner got a decent payout.).
