Which celica engine though???

There are two different types: (Both 1.8 but they have different bore x stroke)

The 140bhp @ 6400rpm VVTi
or the 190bhp @ 7100rpm VVTLi

Oh, and technically it's half a Yamaha Engine as well

My mums got a 190 celica...its crackers in that (especially with knackered tryes at 6000+rpm).

So it'll be mental with that engine in a lightweight RWD shell

I always thought the k-series just didn't quite have the oomph it needed

A while ago a mate was telling me they have put Honda s2000 lumps in Elise's in the states, anybody know if there is any truth in that? Sounds like it could be fun!

It's true. There was a post here a while back with pictures. And there was also a 3 litre V6 twin turbo one kicking around. Mad.

Mufasa, I was thinking about (almost) that just this morning - Cater/field with an S2000 engine. Hmmm...

Bookatrack own an S2000 engined Caterham -Project Nutter

Most Honda converted Elises use the newer K20 Honda engine (2.0), not the B18C, and it is unbelievably fast.

Blink Motorsport's Honda powered Elise is a very nice piece of kit. Performance stats are as follows:
0-60 4.05 seconds
0-100 9.47 seconds
Top speed 155mph

Conversion is £10K mind you.

Exclamation

I went to the local Lotus dealership with a mate of mine who's looking at chopping in his Exige. He went for a drive in the new 190 Elise after the sales guy told him that it would pi$$ all over his Exige. On returning from the test drive he confirmed that it was a quick car but nowhere near as raw as the Exige.Neadless to say he walked away and is now considering a Noble.

Sounds like you dealer knew jack sh*t, nothing new there then!. IIRC new S2 Exige is out in March I think. Although not as raw as the old S1 Exige, it will have track orientated suspension setup and *rumours* of official ~240bhp supercharger upgrade.

IMO it will be a quick car, but if your friend can afford a Noble then I can't see anything coming close to that performance wise. Having said that a Noble is £50K+ isn't it? Alternatively, the TVR T350 would be much quicker than his current Exige although probably not as quick round a track as the S2 Exige with supercharger.

Talking Drove it

Hi guys,

Drove the Toyota 190 Elise last weekend at a garage launch in Glasgow.

Having driven both the 120 bhp and 111s models, I can safely say that this one is MUCH quicker. It handles better, brakes better, is more refined, and as I said pulls very well indeed.

My test drive was with one of the Lotus high heed people, who also did the driving experience days. He confirmed that the new elise was putting in quicker times than the S1 exige around the track at Hethel.

I was totally smitten and want one.

Cheers

Bob.

A T350 won't be as quick as a NA S1 Exige around a track, say Donington, let alone a supercharged S2 Exige. Haven't come across a Noble that's any quicker either, although I haven't driven one myself.
