Merc 500 CLK drive - impressed
Drove a new shape 500 CLK at the weekend. Seriously impressed with the engine and stability. The chassis was a lot better than I expected as well.
Its one of those cars that you arrive at roundabouts doing 20mph faster than you think you are.
Looks just like any other C Class with 2 doors missing so fairly stealthy as well.

I'd driven a 320CLK and expected the bigger engine to show some 'shortcomings' !
I actually came away even more impressed with the car - obviously because the engine is superb, but actually because the car handles it pretty well.
What is it like in the wet by the way ?!

I drove a Maser Spyder yesterday in the pouring rain. That had great traction for a powerful RWD car but struggled with slow corners in the same way as the CLK500 does. These are corners that the WRX handles much better.

To be honest - I can't afford one at the moment but if things change, the 500CLK will be near the top of a short list.
I found the brakes were ok but nothing more, but when flicking the gearbox down for some engine braking they did feel up to the job. Just me ?

I usually drive Audi/VW and Merc and find that Merc brakes are always a lot better [My old Golf VR6 was scary in the anchor department!].

Point 2 - most of them are worse than arrogant beyond belief (whether SL or A class being bought)
Point 3 - Your right
So why own one? I have the 500 cab - what else offers a big V8 and 4 sunshine seats?
