Should I get a R32 Golf ?
#1
Currently got a STI7 and am thinking of changing it for a R32, was wondering if anybody had driven one and what thoughts they have got on them,
Also has anybody got any forums that discuss them.
Cheers.

There's a new Audi S3 out within a year. If you can wait, I'd have thought that would be the one to consider. It's the latest platform, whereas the R32 is the previous model.
It is still very nice though, and the S3 might be quite expensive.

Have to say as an alternative to Subaru and Mitsu-thingy the golf would be my choice. I like the S3 but R32 just looks better IMHO and those seats in black leather are stunning.
New S3 may take a while and not sure what they will do with it as you can get an A4 now with the TT V6 and IIRC DSG.

Good laugh...
Truly: Iīm reading some VeDub forums in Germany, espacially one R32. So much problems with that, I would let it! The 4wd isnīt one. Itīs just a FWD with optional 30% (!) max. RWD. And this doesnīt work. About 85% here had to go in a VW garage because they only were in FWD mode. The mechs said its a " communication problem between the gearbox and the rear diff"...any comments?
About 25% had to go for changing the motor before reaching 15.000 miles. The car isnīt actually manufactured in Germany,itīs hungarian made! About warrantys I donīt have to speak in case of german cars...

I own(ed) its younger sibling, the Bora V6 4motion.
The 4motion Haldex system sux royal jelly. It is FWD until it slips, good for ice and safety, but otherwise it's handling characteristics is all FWD. Blast off the line, and you get serious torque steer. A LOT OF TORQUE STEER in AWD. Left foot brake, and the power cuts to zero, healtoe and the DBW changes response depending on your gear. THe steering is numb and wooden, the clutch is liveless, nothing but nothing in the handling of this car is predictable.
But as a safe, decent and well accomodating car that is easy to live with everyday, it is a great car, as long as it stays OUT of the GARAGE.
I wouldnt count on the chassis rigidity, if you were serious about a NA 3.2, wait for the MK5 to arrive, or get the lighter weight S3. Remember, the MKIV was never made to accomodate a large donk over the front cantilever of the front wheels, a very large weight bias over the front wheels means nose diving manic understeer.
In a few years, yaw sensor failure, CD player, engine knocking, intolerable under heat, and a vulnerable oil undertray. Kepe the WRX until the new 5 comes out, In my opinion.
