fast project

thinking about modding a car to get the following:
* driveable on the road
* run a <11 second qtr
* fun and fast on a track
* pretty easy to mod to that level (easier to explain to an insurance company)
* 0-60 sub 4 secs
* cost is a concern
im thinking one of the following:
* sti type r / 22b
* supra twin turbo
* skyline
* evo 5/6
* something more "out there".. megabusa etc
anyone running something like the above and getting < 11 second quarters?
want something to keep for a long time (forever) and not get bored

Probably as well as looking for a second hand kit-car, some are really cheap, especially at this time of year, then spend some time stripping it and upgrading it to your spec, plus you'll probably be able to re-sell some of the parts you've removed.

Get a kit dude. Those sort of performance figures are not far of standard for many sports kitcars, and if you don’t mind something that don’t have snob value attached it will cost a lot less.
A turbo fireblade or turbo R1 engine in a 4k kit car will give you awesome acceleration, 500 bhp/T and handling to boot. Just have to live with its limited usage through bad weather.
Some people use the term kitcar to mean lesser, cheep, tatty, how sadly misguided they are, many kit cars are a superb way of obtaining, individuality and performance at affordable prices, where others are too blinkered in their thinking to even consider such a car.

How much are you willing to spend? You can't have your cake and eat it.
How about a Yank tank v8? Normally dirt cheap to tune. Or a (twin) bike engined mini?

Also take a look at fisher sportscars - dead cheap but very high performance cars - can take many engines from motor bike up to rover V8 etc
the have mucho inboard suspension ala F1 cars - apparently can out handle caterhams etc etc..
