SMGII M3's and Wives/Girlfriends/Birds
#1
I 'think' I'm going to order an M3 with SMGII but am getting mixed reviews. I'll mainly be driving the car but I'll need clearance from mission control before the order goes in.
As we know, the fairer sex isn't too accomplished in the finer art of acclimatising to mechanical differences. For those who own M3's how are your other halves getting on with it? Am I going to get complaints about the changes being too jerky, whilst she's putting on makeup and using the vanity mirror - BTW this a great way to blind them if they start moaning about you driving too fast!!
What options would you say are essential and what are a waste of time? I've read that the Harmon Kardon sterio isn't that great.

Options we went for were sat-nav, smg, 19inch wheels and a few other little extras, i found the smg fantastic and with the option of auto mode if i couldnt be arsed doing it myself. Not too jerky either or put it this way no more jerkier than my husband changing gear in the subaru.

That's why the Scooby is on it's way Dave... it's too loud for Fiona and we nearly go everywhere in her Mini. Oh and also because the seats on the M3 are electric and have multiple memory poistions.
Mind you she drove my scoob last night and scared the **** out of me.

I went from the STI7 to an M3 with SMG.
It's great, best thing is other half doesnt want to drive it because it's to confusing not having a gear stick.(Unlike the Scooby).
I baffled her with sience on how to use SMG,(didnt tell her the truth about how easy it is)
Now I wont get any curbed alloys
PS Both Great cars m8e, let me know if you need any other info on it, still always on the Scooby site aswell as the BM3w site.

Its only jerky if it is in a fast gear change mode. If you tried a manual change in similar speeds no doubt it too wuld be atleast as jerky.
What I am saying is that you have the option to do slower gear changes which are smooth, and less jerky than the equivalent manual.
Must have options:
1. SMG!
2. Sat Nav
3. 19" wheels
4. For a cab - heated seats
5. FCR
Not worth the cash:
1. Harmon Kardon
2. Elec folding mirrors (but are v. cool)
3. Shiny shadow line

My wife didn't have any problem with the SMG box, was smoother than me from the off !
Great fun gearbox, excellent for thrashing the car and if you fancy the odd track day.
would agree about the HK.
Wind deflector is excellent for cab
