Which VAG TDI
Sure this questions been asked before but, which offers the best compromise between performance and Economy?
The PD engine is now in a fair few chasis, just unsure as to which is the best value.
currently have between 12K and 15K of my hard earned burning a hole and as usual, every car i see it's the car of my dreams until the next one!
head not heart is easier said than done
having a test drive in leon cupra PD 150 tomorrow (16K which is more than i want to spend ideally) and i'd rather buy 6 months to a year old and let someone else take the VAT hit for a change.
ideas anyone?
edited cos my spelling stinks!

i see the merits, but..... i have 2 bikes for the performance hit, and two bikes two cars = sex ban and 6 month stint in the doghouse from the missus
covering 18K a year and reckon a diesel is the viable option, dont want hair raising performance but outright slow isnt an option either.
thanks for the suggestion though (made me think! put it that way

Does the remap radically change the MPG?
what will a remap do to the 130?
are insurance companies very arsey about remaps?
also been having a trawl round the net, feeling i get is the seat is a better drivers car than the golf. anyone have any personal experience?
only driven the golf before (1.6se) and it floated about like a barge, although i know there is a sports suspension pack.
cheers guys this is much appreciated

Sorry, meant to say that the 130 goes to 190 when remapped. Jabbasport will do this for you. Diesels only use fuel when you put your foot down, so if you drive faster you'll use more fuel. Drive the same, and economy will be unaffected. I prefer the Leon over the Golf - drive both, see what you think. The Leon does feel smaller though.
Phone the insurance company to ask them. Mine (Liverpool Victoria) don't care about mods so long as I don't change the engine capacity, which is nice!

Cheers for the info, i'll know more after test driving the leon tomorrow.
The info will come in V.handy though.
Sounds like the 130 may be the way ahead, not least because the 150 has just been released in the leon. Prices for the remap seem very reasonable too
have a good weekend people

Also a vote for PD130. This engine seems to consume a lot less diesel then the 150 model. There was almost a liter difference between the test consumption in VW driver Golf test, and some 150 drivers are reporting pretty high mpg figures in seatcupra.net & ukmkiv forums. Maybe its the different injectors? Dont know..
And as was said before, the performance will be very similar after remapping between PD130 and PD150. PD150 will produce a bit more power but it is also heavier than PD130.

Of the few I have driven the PD130 is more refined and with a smoother power delivery than the 150.
Do you need something as big as a Leon or Golf?
The Fabia vRS has the PD130, handles superb, loads of kit, group 9 insurance and only £12k full list price.
The PD130 is now available in the Octavia as well.

Here's a question for the VAG lot: I'm after a PD130 myself
BUT....
Apart from what it says under the bonnet - is there any other way of telling what version TDi engine is under the bonnet?
Just I'm fed up seeing adverts or cars for sale and the seller doesn't state what bhp engine it has
Even some dealers don't have a clue!
Is there some difference in the badging (like red a "i" or something?) or spec that would make it easier to find out.
It's getting rather tedious sifting through ad's and have to ask what engine it has before I can even been interested in the car - even the VW/Seat/Audi dealers are hopeless...Look at their USED section on their websites - hardly any cars say what BHP they have

& what about Skodas ??
We now have 2 Octavias, one is an Octavia L&K 1.9 TDI Estate with the 110 bhp engine. Being the L&K it came with all the toys, full leather, heated seats, Metalic paint, alloys (including alloy spare) climate control, sunroof, heated mirrors, 6 CD changer etc etc , 3 years or 60000 warranty, 3 years free AA cover & all for £14500 on the road so s/hand would be a steal & the saloon is even cheaper.
Its done 29500 trouble fee miles & has just had its first service (car on variable servicing) & service was £190 (long life oil aint cheap).
The car was Jabbad at about 10000 miles & now has 162 bhp & 393 n/m torque, spins wheels easily in second in the wet & I have seen 135 on the clock. The fuel consumption is also much better since it was "looked at" the average according to the cars computer for the last 1500 miles is 54 mpg. recently did a trip from Basildon to Winchester , 110 miles, averaged 59.4 mph with mpg of 54.6, cruise control helps & was set at 85 on the Motorway
So these engines be it 110 or 130 are really good, a trip to Jabba will give a seriously fun car to drive & cheap to run & if you dont mind the Skoda badge its the same car for less

There is no way to tell by the badges with VW's as they are fit by the dealer, so its upto the dealer to put on which badge they see fit.
I have 2 friends each with PD130's and one has a red i and the other has no red letters at all???

I know someone who may be selling a '51 plate PD130 Golf in silver. Has about 30k on the clock - will let him know when I get back to work on tuesday. Nice car.
I've had a 150 about 20 months now and racked up 51K - sweet as a nut.

Just confirming the 130 is smoother than the 150, test drove a Seat Leon Cupra TDI at the weekend and when the boost comes in you know about it, pretty on and off. The 130 however is alot smoother and only has marginally less torque.
After test driving the cupra 150 at the weekend, i was impressed. agreed it was pretty much an off/on affair with the accelerator.
I was very impressed with the feel of the steering and it was grippy into corners
The garage are giving me the use of the 130 SE for the weekend as a comparison.
should have a much better idea of which way to jump after that methinks.
cheers again for all your input
