I've had a Escort Mark 2 RS2000 that I've been "rebuilding" since september 1990. It has been totally stripped and the shell has been group A or B rally pre-pared, including all the strutt turrets seam welded etc. I had the good idea of hammeriting all the inside and underneath after it was done. Fortunately it has stopped the dreaded rust from getting to it.

I've had a few people showing interest in buying it from me. I'm not sure what it's worth to be honest ??? Has anyone got any ideas ??

I have all the parts needed to complete, apart from a quarter light. I have plenty of extras like 3 Nose cones, two sets of headlights, two engines, Cossie gear box, etc.

Can anyone help ?

Thanks Phill

PS, If anyone else is interested email me on phill@babber.org or telephone 07733362700

I had one up to a couple of years ago. It was roadworthy with an MoT but had a little rust on the rear arches and the bottom of one door. It needed the seats retrimming and a little TLC but was still a looker. I sold it for £1650 which was a bit cheap but not too cheap.
I am now a bit gutted I sold it because the prices seem to have shot up. Have a look on ebay as some people are trying to sell complete unroadworthy wrecks for the money I sold mine for.
I would love to buy another but I have since bought a Westfield and the misses would kill me if I did.

Good luck with the sale but I dont think you will need it, as there will be plenty of people interesed in it if the shell is in good condition.

I know I'll seriously regret selling it in a few years, as the shell is so clean. It's currently at my Ex wife old house and taking up space She stroppy as she wants the room. Lol, probably so her boyfriend can use the garage

I've had the car for 16 years and I had some good fun in it

These things are starting to be worth money!!!

Probably not as much in bits though!

In several Rally News issues (RSOC magazine) covering from May 2003 to October 2003, 1 origional car (W reg) is going for £9750 but has only done 11700 miles from new. Another (W reg) is up for £10k with 11k on the clock. A Mk 2 Mexico in concourse condition is up for £6750 and a working class concourse 1980 RS2k is going for £4200.

Hope that will help you.

Hi there !

Suppose it would be too much trouble for you to scan these adds and email them to me Dazc2 ? I have been after a mint one for ages, and by the sound of those cars they r just what I'm after.

If its not possible there aint a problem mate. Just thought I would ask.

Thanks in advance !

Ricky !

Hi Ricky,

They are a bit out of date and I was just using them as an example to be honest.

A friend of mine is taking up rallying again and looking for an RS2000 to do it in. Is it the flat front or other shape?

I will pass your number on to him if your looking for sensible money for it.

I'm looking for sensible money for what I got.

The shell we need to be painted and the car re-assembled. I always fancied a Cossie engine for it, and hence the reason it comes with a Cossie gear box

No it a nose cone front with two new wings fitted.

Maybe I should take some pictures. An email offer would be nice, even a guide to the price I could get

Thanks Phill

A rot free Mk2 shell is worth about 1k to somebody building a rally car to gp4 spec.A newly prepared gp 4 spec shell is worth about 5k.

From what you've said, I'd say it's worth maybe £2-2.5K? Gearbox will be worth a reasonable amount, and as said before, a nice rot-free shell is £1k+. Is it MOT-able? How are the mechanics? Is most of it standard?
I wouldnt want to see this go on to be a rally car really, that should be left to the Popular Plus' and the like which are still about.. prefer to see the rare-ish classics (Mexico's, RS's, Harriers etc) looked after.
Lastly I'd say keep it! I've got a mildly tuned 2.0 Mk2 (not an RS), Billies all round etc and i bloody love it. My 3rd Mk2 in 3 years. The first 'quick' car i've had (only had X-flow powered Mk2's before).

Have a look at the ads in the back of Retro Cars magazine.

Motoring news is another good publication for 'dealer' prices.

Especially parts!

To be honest, I would post your question on one of the AVO or RS websites.
