What Tdi for £4000 ish??

Alright,
Im looking at getting a sensible run around and would prefer a Tdi,which ones are best for around the £4000 mark.
Around 1997-2000 model.
Ive been looking at VW passat,Vauxhall Astra,Peugeot 306,anything considered though.
All opinons welcome.
