Question

Friend of mine is contemplating one of these 2000 or 2001.

Realise that these come with excellent build quality and reliability.

Does anyone have first hand experience?

Geoff

Dont know about the 2.8, but we had a 1.8 SE as an ex-demonstrator with about 1100 miles on it, and have just traded in for a new A4 Turbo Sport with it going just over 100k miles.

Build quality is excellent, the Audi dealership that we use are very helpful and treatment is always 1st class. Apart from the base spec A2 courtesy cars that they hand out!!

1.8 was only 125bhp when new, probably a bit less at 100k miles!! But it went well enough, and even though it was on the soft SE suspension (fairly large body roll on corners) it gripped very well. One thing was that the steering didnt have any feel to it, but its a family saloon so its not built for driver envolvement!!

IIRC the 2.8's are around 190bhp, and with the quattro and sports suspension then I would expect it to be a very nice car to drive both on the motorway and on the twisties B-Roads.

Cheers,
Grant

I am in one today. its a 99. Quattro. very nice build and it shifts real quick. This one has had a few mods done to the brakes and steering. We will travel back to london tomorrow in it.

hell of a lot for the money.

There is a problem with the Alu... cases of bad reactions.
I have just done a full blown standing start in it for nearly a mile... I like it.. The steering had some pully change etc done by "Nothelle" (Spelling) in Germany.

Having a rest for a bit.....

The others with me reccon its a good car. Its bloody well built. shifts like hell. Safe and drives well.

Ok this one has had some work done. brake pads and discs by Nothelle. Also a remap and some work to the steering.

For a big car like this you can get 5 inside and the thing still fly's

I've had loads of Audi Quattro's (well 5!). my wife has an A6 2.8 Quattro.

my opinion:
1.fantastic build quality and understated rather than overstated which suits me.
2.A6 2.8 is not that fast - my A6 2.5 TDI Quattro Sport felt MUCH faster believe it or not.
3.You need the sport trim or the steering and handling is a bit woolley
4.Audi Quattro is the car I will definately be driving again when I get bored of my subaru.

cheers, Barney

OK Just drove the Audi back to London. 4 men in the car and 1 lady. Boot full of equipment. It was very very fast with no drama. Must look into "Nothelle" a bit more. Ok gas was used a bit... but on the motorway we must have got around 25mpg. Climate kept us all comfortable and the seats are a dream.

Reccon its a very "Q" car if debadged(as this one is).The overtaking ability if wicked!!

luke : well impressed.
