Nic's mum owns one - a Perodua Kelisa.
It's not actually that bad, although Nic tells me that she has to thrash it to make it even remotely accelerate... (This was very telling when she last drove the Scoob - no other comment necessary!!)
It's based on an old Daihatsu design I think.
Oh, and it's cheap. - supposed to be the cheapest new car in England.

They're not exactly quality vehicles - bottom rung of the new-car ladder !
Opinion here : http://www.telegraph.co.uk/motoring/main.jhtml?xml=/motoring/2002/05/03/emfpero04.xml
Essentially the reviewer's opinion was they're very, very cheap for a new car but they feel v cheap and nasty too !

So question is - would it do my gran who appears by what she said managed to get a £5800 model for £4900 (she said she haggled). They don't seem to bad - may take her car shopping on sunday though see what else there is to be had.

I bet the car is pretty fast once your stereotypical granny gets behind the wheel... you know the type; the one that dips the clutch and then revs it to 6500rpm and releases the pedal...

Malaysian Daihatsus built under liceince from what I know. Lower quality build.
Should be reliable but don't expect the last word in interior style.
3 cylinder engines on many lik Daihatsu used to so you could always try and drop the 993cc CB-80 lump from a Charade GTti or the 695cc TRXX unit in to spice it up a bit
