Am after some helpful advice on my friends Micra engine .
It's an S plate 1.0 ( I think ) . When it's idling ,say for 10 seconds , the revs go significantly higher, stays like that for 10 secs , then drops back down to normal idle. Know this sounds petty but she says even on the motorway the car will suddenly pick up speed itself + she feels its almost out of control !

Any help is much appreciated .

She needs to take it to a Nissan garage to check for fault codes. Probably a dodgy sensor somewhere.

Tell her that the pedal on the right will increase the revs when pushed

On a serious note, idle control valve?

Has it got Air con and is it switched on ? The compressor can increase revs at idle and on a 1l engine you can get strange power changes as the compressor switched on and off.

Just another angle that is probably b0llocks

Have'nt Nissan just recalled thousands of cars due to a potential ECU fault. Might be worth giving a Nissan dealer a ring to see if her Micra is one of those affected.

Cool

Sounds like a faulty idle control valve to me.

Shane, AFAIK the recall is on the 2 litre engines fitted in Primeras, Almeras & MPVs

PS Don't knock that shape micra, a mate of mine who used to be the gofer at our local dealership had a 1 litre micra that went like stink, although, that might have been something to do with him being a nutter behind a steering wheel though
