There is a guy in the office who has a top spec V8 Disco with active suspension. Really nice car, very comfy and well put together and fairly quick. He has had 4 Discos and this one has had no problems.
If you wnat to know any specifics I'll ask him.
Mark
Oh and 20-15 mpg before you ask

might have to think about a v8!

Haven't owned a disco but my (work) partner has one and i've driven it quite a bit. it's a dog imo. it's a pre TD5 model, so i suppose the newer ones may be better. build quality on this one is reminiscent of a cornflakes packet...

Hi Tiggs,
I know they are not 7 seaters but how many kids have you got! I've just bought an XTrail 2.2 diesel SE+. I can't believe how much I like it. I sold a 2000 facelift M5 for £29k and bought this for 15,995 privately. Best car purchase move I've made I reckon.

Do a search on AutoTrader for a Mitubsihi Shogun, include the keyword "Animal".
Private sales only, there is a beauty for £18,495 wide screen DVD the lot.

chinnybloke,
i need room for 3 kids. 1 in a baby seat, 1 on a booster and 1 loose!
theres NO WAY they can sit comfy in the back of a standard car.
That animal is cheap...must be a manual petrol version? (not a nice combo)

Hi, I went down this road about a year ago, I think the only options are the Disco or the XC90. I opted for the Disco because of the ruggedness and the option of the complete rubber mat set that covers pretty much the whole floor and boot area. It definately wont win any trophys for perfomance but you will like it. I went for the ES TDI auto and got a dealer reg'd one for £27000.00. The after-sales is also second to none.

Be Original, Get a Landrover County, Goes anywhere, Tons of Fun, Great for the kids, treat it as bad as you want & you wont be one of those "Trendy" 4x4 owners & they are at a push a 12 Seater.
With the Discoveries unless the build quality has dramatically improved in the last 3 years they are a liability.
Weve used various 4x4's for Balloooning & used them hard. The County is a good all round tool, Best of the trendies IMO is the Isuzu Trooper. The only down side to the County is its a pain on long runs & by long I mean several hundred miles.

Tiggs, wife is on 2nd disco, had a TDI up to a year ago, and got a TD5 with ACE (cornering control, which means its good in the twisties ) November 2002, It feels reasonably quick for a 2.5 ton brick compared to the TDI and against the shogun sport (challenger) which we test drove (which felt more like a truck/pickup,which it is based on)we felt the TD5 was a alround better package.
Thanks

What about a Vauxhall Zafira GSI turbo. Compact 7 seater MPV. 190 odd bhp, 0-60 under 8 secs.

tiggs,
do NOT get a td5, my partner at work is on his second(he should have known better, but decided to give the facelifted one a second chance) both were never out of the garage, the first one with gearbox problems and his current one which is little over 6 weeks old,has had a new clutch/windscreen and center console, it is painfully slow especially if you back off the gas then want to speed up again esp at motorway speeds.
i have chucked in my scoob and am now waiting for an
m class,270cdi, which to be honest is the first car to be able to tear me away from subaru, it drves like a car and has loads of torque, plus resale values are pretty good if you care about such things(my mate got 15k for the td5 ES after 3 years, which is 33k new)
BTW mine has the amg kit on it so will look the dogs...
hope this helps

Dave, wife never had a problem with either of our Discos's over the last 5 years in fact both my scoobs have been more unreliable and back to the dealers, no exagaration, perhaps some people are destined to get the dross of the output just bad luck i suppose.
Find the TD5 is quite an elegant cruiser at motorway + speeds, and when you do have to reapply the pressure after slowing down, its really not all that bad. Horses for courses i suppose
Cheers

Go for Shogun/Pajero
I've got a 7 seater turbo diesel Pajero. Its a true 7 seater with proper forward facing seats in the back with correct inertia belts.
Kids love it especially as its got big wheels and pimp tint windows. Full spec with leather, climate (with separate controls for rear), heated seats, good cd player and loads of other bells and whistles.

You haven't said how much money you want to spend, but I have a nice Discovery which I'm about to sell which you might be interested in. And I live very near to you, in fact I'll be in Henley this Saturday ...

Dave...if you haven't already bought it, I know two people who had ML's and they both thought they were cr*p. Poor build quality for Merc in both and poor dealer service too. To add to that, my old man has a new shape E270CDI and he's getting rid of it as soon as Merc get the part in (sometime in Jan) to fix it! His has already had new front seats, OS upgrade, sat-nav upgrade and now his keyless go doesn't work.
