Off to have a look at a 1.8GL MKIII Golf tomorrow @ 11am for my mum. All she needs basically with PAS and leccy stuff, ad says its done 55k miles, FSH, on a 1993 K reg. Seems like it could be a good motor.
Anyone got any experience of these Golfs, guess they are pretty robust, but has anyone got any tips/advice on what to look for when we go and view it?
Cheers
Neil

Hi
This is a MUST. Check the rubber seals where the doors open, just lift it back as they are prone to rusting.
This was a main reason my dad exchanged for a mk4 ie galvanised.
Good Luck

Erm, you said - This was a main reason my dad exchanged for a mk4 ie galvanised
So implying your dad changed his MK3 for a MK4 as the MK4 is galvanised, indicating the MK3 is not?......
Well - thats how I read it anyway! LMAO!! Not that it really matters - cheers for the advice, off to look at it tomorrow am.

I had a 96N TDI GL and had one small electrial hiccup in 3 years ownership, and this was fixed quickly at a local dealer. Swapped it for a MK4 last summer.
Surprised that you're looking for a petrol over a TDI.

I assure you Gastro the MK3 is not galvanised!
Was told this by C&R Enterprises & VW Leicester. Could be wrong but being galvanised this means it will not rust.
Reason for my dad swapping to teh mk4 was the door hinges rusting.
Still a top motor

As Tainton said,it ain't galvanised.
Not known to be big rotters, but do check for accident damage which has been repaired, that where they normally start rotting.
Engine a long laster and gearbox is too.
