Running Costs, Scoob v Supra ?
#1
Which would bankrupt me the quickest, the Scoobs running costs are well documented on here but I havent seen anything about the Twin Turbo Supra, I am not daft (well not that daft) and can imagine that they aint going to be on a par with a one litre Metro but are they significantly more expensive to run than a Scoob ?
Will have about 9/10 grand to go looking early next year but want to do the maths before hand so it isnt such a shock !

The Supra goes like s**t off a blanket but would suggest you drive it first, I drove one once and didn't inspire any confidence, felt loose at the back, it was second-hand so suspension could have been shot but I wasn't impressed at all.

hehe ... i had a test drive of TT Supra aswell. F*ck it was quick , turned around a corner , full boot ... and the back end went mental .. it was quite fun ... straight line was unbelievable .
I would imagine with a heavy foot this thing would guzzle fuel , your best bet would be to ring a specialist and ask about servicing intervals and costs . Would you want to start modifying it ? Have you checked out insurance yet ? Those are your main things arent they .
Hopefully my stepdad is getting one . which i wont argue with.

Fuel economy in the supra should be about the same as a scoob,
straight line performance over 60odd is incredible, brilliant fun
to drive, ultra reliable, fantastic build quality, comfortable.
The only thing a scoob has over the supra is 4wd safety and room for 4. £10k should buy a nice '94 manu.

if you can find one
& as for modifying similarly standard will be quite tricky to find but if you need to worry about insurance then chances are you can't afford it, same as scoob really, but it does have probably the MOST modifyable engine remember ohhh 1000bhp suits you sir lol

Supra's are silly quick I've had mine since Aug 1st and not been beaten yet
The handle incredibly well for such a big car and they are quite chuckable (not quite scooby standards though in the tighter bends) but you have to respect it being rear wheel drive. 320+ bhp going through the rear wheels means you also have to feather the throttle rather than rely on the crap Toyota traction control.
Fit Racelogic like I have and all of a sudden the car becomes a beast and lets you do reallt silly things that you just shouldn't be able too!!!
Fuel tank is 70 litres in the JSpec and they are a little quicker as the ceramic turbos spool up quicker than the Uk (80 litre tank)steel ones, but the Uk's are a bit better top end. On a run I got 275+ out of a tank and about 20-22mpg in normal driving. I'm now decatted, FCD, performance spark plugs etc and running about 1.1bar which should be around 360-380bhp and I never get less than 17mpg even stuck in traffic.
As for general servicing, they are vastly cheaper than the scoob. They need servicing every 9000 miles or yearly and the services cost about 250 quid. Compared to my scoob which cost me 600 a year Of course its wise to do an oil change sooner, some do every 3k I do every 4.5k and the oil is about 40 quid, 8 for a filter and easy enough to do yourself
Thats about all of the top of my head, any more q's just shout!

Supra running 1.2 should see a genuine 370bhp, so an FCD and boost controller is all you need.....2jz-gte engine is possibly the strongest japanese engine as stock, will take 600bhp all day long on standard internals...!

If anyone can get their hands on a Euro or American spec, the turbos can be boosted to 18 PSI safely. Larger exhuast & downpipe is highly recomended if you want more than 400 HP.
The 2JZ-GTE is a stupendously strong engine, there are enthusiasts running over 900 horses with stock block, pistons and head.

Hmm haven't met any members with one of them yet, not even the girlies
[so since we're in sweeping generalisation mode]
Still, baseball cap wearing boy racing scooby drivers will say anything to try and get one up
[/generalisation]

Bloody hell, I thought that lot were photoshopped for a minute !
Cheers for all the info, I think 320 bhp should be enough for me being as my next most powerful car was a Volvo T5, I mean what you think you need when spouting drivel on a BBS and what you need on the road are two different things.
