What to get for £7000?
#1
Hi
Ive got a 93 E36 325 coupe at the mo, and wanna px for something else as it dont handle well and is a nighmare in the wet, im looking at spending a total of £7000.
Ive thought of a scooby turbo or sport, turbo is fun and 4WD, so that means grip, but high running costs, the sport has grip and low running costs, but its slow!!!!
Im not someone that likes going sideways, hence getting ride of the BM, i wanna get from a to b as quick as poss, (7sec 0-60 will do) and feel safe aswell.
Anyone got any other ideas????

You might want to think of an FTO, for £7000 you'll get a good manual. They're front wheel drive, nice and stable. Just over 7 seconds to 60, with lots of mid range power. GPX come with Mivec which...like vtech changes the cam-profile for some awesome noise at around 4500/5000rpm. They're 198bhp. Come with aircon, electric windows, and some rather cool electric flip up side mirrors, (which I flip up all the time! Ask my mates who are probably fed up with me doing with it! ) Most of all the ladies love them...I'm just guessing at this last one!

FTO pretty nice motor, they do sound lovely..
You could look at these too:
These are all FWD, but you can still get oversteer with a FWD, just don't lift off the right pedal on the bent and twisties
Have a look on the import websites, you'll get a lot more for your money with a grey JDM car. £7 will get you quite a lot.
http://www.parkers.co.uk/ good resource when you're buying second hand, can see price guides, and also rev's which are generally pretty good, spot any build quality issues with your choices.

You could look at these too:
- Honda Prelude 2.2i VTEC or 2000 sport, quite rapid, nice looking, well built, and fairly well behaved, not an out and out racer
- Fiat Coupe 20v great little car, turbo a monster, will cost a bit to insure though. Forget it was made by Fiat, it was designed by a Ferrari designer, and it has amazing handling and is very rapid.
- Ford Puma 1.7 - very good handling little car, 1.4 pretty good too.
- 306 GTI-6 - great hot hatch, still looks quite pretty too for it's age.

Thanks for the advice,
Nt really a fan of the FTO, seen one in a garage, and thought its a bit girly for me.
Preludes are nice, but look old these days and the newer one is ugly, and the civic is a grany car (no offence anyone)
Not really sure, had FWD before and they go straight on in the wet, and RWD is too sideways for me thanks !!!
So still a bit stuck, though of the older GT-4 aswell, carlos saintz model, but that also looks a bit old!!

gav888: GT4 is an out and out rally car, that's a handful.
Integra is an amazing front wheel drive chassis, if you can see one in a garage, take it out for a test, even just for a gas, it's a beaut, you'll love it. Also GTI-6 very good front wheel drive chassis. Just a different driving style than r or awd, but you can get lift oversteer with them as much as you can understeer. Even RWD and AWD can get out of shape and get understeer if you get breaking wrong, or apex bla bla etc, just need some time to work them out.. Fiat Turbo 20v, while it may look funny, it's always been crowed a mini ferrari, very rapid, and good chassis, just bleeding expensive to insure. As good as a corrado.
Also another bland but capable and inexpensive car is 200sx, although tis rear wheel drive, and oversteer a par of the course of such a beast.
And as for high running costs of a scoob, I don't there are that many other fast cars that are much cheaper in real terms, they are thirsty, but so will a GT4 be, if not more so. An integra however, is 1.8, and under vtec, actually quite economical, but to enjoy them you have to keep them on the boil constantly, which I imagaine would be quite tiring for commuting purposes.

Civic VTI a 'granny' car, oh dear - what it is is invisible to car thieves and cheap to insure/run
With 178BHP on tap in a lightweight car (equates to around 152BHP per tonne, (incidentally your BM is around 125bhp per tonne) and great handling it is a much underrated car which will embarrass a lot of much larger engined cars including the BM 325/8
I have had mine off the clock in top showing around 8500rpm which in real money is 150mph. Not bad for a 'granny' car

£7000 will buy you a mint condition 4x4 RS Sapphire Cosworth and if your lucky it will be sporting either a stage two or stage three conversion , practical, reliable and very very fast, driven off boost will see 30 to the gallon , put the foot down and not much on the road will be able to keep up, add this to the rarity and strong residual values for clean straight cars and we are talking seriously good value for money.
