Saw a Pug outside the office last night. He pulled out of the junction and booted it, bouncing off the rev limiter.

Was just wondering what sort of speed you'd get from 2nd gear?

They certainly do.

Not much point hitting it though, the party's over after 6000 in a 1.9.

Could be, I just thought with the speed he came out of the junction and the engine note it was 2nd.

IIRC the 1.9 is about 6600 rev limiter.

Mine aint standard also. Redlines at 6k rpm (I think), but my engine redlines/limits at 7,200 rpm (Mi16). Hav hit it a few times now

Bit scary having to rev all the way past the redline

LOL @ DW

There is a limiter on them, though some aftermarket chips/ecu either raise it or scrub it altogether.

It also varies from car to car! But it should be around 6.5k revs, sometimes a little less, sometimes a little more!

Olly - thats a point I hear often that I'm not convinced about mate. Sure - it feels like its run out of steam at 6k, but mine on the rollers developed its peak power of 126bhp @ 6240 and 115lb/ft @ 4400rpm. So on my particular car its worth going over 6, only tails right off around 6500rpm

Where as mine only picks up at 4k, flys to 6k, then goes mental from 6 to 7.2

Just a shame that at the same time it is chuffnig blue smoke out

Just waiting to borrow a compression tester, to hopefully find out the stem seals have gone (and not the rings). Then comences the fully flowed and ported head work - yippee!!

DW: Yours should pull a bit harder at higher RPM if the breathing is improved, ie filter and exhaust.

Mine is running a Halfords filter and the cheapest exhaust system that the local grease monkeys sell. It runs out of puff past 6k. In any case its irrelavant: the sweet spot has always been between around 4000-5500 on my car. From what I can remember anyway, haven't used it for months..

Curiously, its pulling 124bhp on an "honest" set of rollers. Haven't a clue at what RPM, have to dig out the printout.

For sale soon, (boo hoo), new car imminent...

Unhappy

Olly - NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

Yeah - theres defo a sweet spot around 4-5k, I just love the low down torque - "feels" so much faster coz your not waiting for the turbos to spool etc

If yours is a bit less eager at high revs it could well be down to the exhaust - the standard exhaust is as good as it gets (as I'm sure you know!!), and some of the aftermarket ones aren't designed properly, as there should be a splitter in the pipe where it bolts on to the manifold..........

or how about an 8v at 8000 RPM

http://www.btinternet.com/~blackscoo...isters1910.wmv
Right click and save as. On the short straight the revs are sky high and the change light had been lit a while !

Currently we're down on power. If you look at the power graph when we had it mapped by 8000 we'd be down on power, but given the impending hairpin certainly not worthwhile changing up.

Nobles have said that the inlet manifold is causing us problems as its completely standard. Throttle bodies due on before Christmas

Standard 1.9 goes to over 65mph in 2nd (limiter is 6900rpm). Standard 1.6 goes to 58mph in 2nd (limiter is 6500rpm).

I'm pretty sure thata`s right although my knowledge is from a long time ago now.

Dave's right.

Over 65 mph in second at 6900 rpm.

Funny how the longer stroke engine had a higher rev limit...

Probably the best place to buy my book online is Chaters:
