I'm thinking of getting rid if the Impreza and replacing it with a Skoda and another more exciting car.
I fancy an E30 M3 next, I know these are good cars but want to know is one a realistic prospect as a daily driver as my girlfriend will be using the Skoda and the M3 will have to be my commuting car. How do servicing cost compare with an Impreza and will it do better MPG?
My main concerns are the age of the car and massive running costs- anything cheaper or the same as the Impreza will be justifiable.
I've looked on some M3 websites but dare I say it they are a bit biased. Any info from owners or ex owners will be gratefully recieved.

Hand built 2.3's aren't they? I think the Evo has about 220Bhp.

I think 16vmark needs to learn a bit more first.....
E30 M3s are 2.3 litre 4 cylinder engines but he was right and they do knock out about 200bhp.EvoIIs have 220bhp and EVO sports 250 I think.
Chances are you will always be told it is an EVO version but more than likely it won`t.They were limited to 501 made.
I used to own a genuine EvoII number 392 if I remember correctly and I used it almost everyday with no problems. The only time it gets tricky is in snow and ice.The diffs don`t work to well in those conditions.
Main thing to look for is timing chain being changed before 100000 miles and rust cause of the age.You will find most are looked after very well and boy racers tend not to buy them. They are a good track car so look at for any that have been ragged....
I have a mate who has still got his,he might even read this but he has not driven it since getting his skyline and it is sitting on his drive. He will sell it if you are interested.....

How much would he be looking for it? Is it an EVO 2 like your old car?

V-techland......
Well he offered it to me a while back for a very good price but that was mainly just to get it off his hands...
I have just asked him and he says £3000....This is very cheap but it has not been driven for 6 months,it has no tax and the mot ran out. Before he got the skyline though it was running nicely. It would need a proper service to get it back running again.
It is a normal E30 M3.It has 16" alpina wheels and 17"radius wheels,Hartege exhaust and full cream leather interior.
If you are interested email me stuartp@lsil.com

thanks for the info- I'm after a minter, I've seen a nice EVOII 2.5 sport with air con for 11K which seems like a bargain to me. Just have to see how much Munich legends want for a timing chain and then start haggling. Still after any comments from owners/ex owners.

Nacro...
Evo sport is the best one...Don`t go to munich legends for the timing chain..they will want at least £1000 maybe more.I got mine done with a full service and new schrick cams for £900...and this bloke knows more about M3s than munich legends...I don`t think I have his number still but try calling Mosely motorsports and see if they can give you the number of Russ from Darlington,he usually does gearboxes for them.

Cool

If you can offer a very good price for this my uncle might sell it but it would need to be good.

He posts on here as DHILL 555

Check this for a proper M3

Wink

Its got to be in better condition than when it came out of the showroom.

In the flesh it looks like a FERRARI honest.

If it was mine i wouldnt sell it for less than £12k i dont care what they are going for there aint one out there anywhere near this car.

I'm looking at paying around 10-12K and the M3 insurance quote was £500 from Liverpool Victoria V £950 for the Impreza, expensive because I spend more the 180 days in Europe whilst still insuring my car in the UK. I can't work out why the M3 is som uch cheaper as I think it's group 18.

i have just sold my M3 for a lot more than 3 grand,So the one mentioned in this post is very cheap(so cheap i would buy it myself)As for a timing chain give keith a ring at Auto Integrale he knows m3's inside out and is very competative with his prices. Reading 01189710281.He did lots of work for independant !

Munich legends are good blokes but very expensive cars and servicing,Best avoided.
