VW diesels TDi
#1
drove my first one yesterday 115bhp Passat TDi
quite impressed - a little get up and go - but I got 51 mpg on twisties and through towns across moors - and quite alot stop start in traffic.
now I'm thinkng of a TDi car - not the passat - but maybe audi A4 or golf.
have the seat cupra's and octavias got the same engines - I'd probably get a 130bhp variant. whats the 2nd hand market like on these.

The Octavia has only just got the PD130 BHP diesels, the vast majority of used diesel Octavias are the "old" 110bhp direct injection motor. This can still be chipped to impressive outputs, but not as much as a PD130 motor
Not sure when Seat got the PD engines, but again I think it was relatively recently. Might be worth checking at Seat Cupra forums as there's a friendly TDI section there.
The PD130 motor has been in Golfs and A3s for a couple of years, and the PD115 for about a year before that, so there should be plenty of those around second-hand. Both can be chipped / tuning boxed easily for 25% extra power, and nearly 300lb-ft of torque
The 115 was the first PD motor, with the 130 version being introduced later. The PD115 gives 115bhp and 210lb-ft of torque, the PD130 comes in two torque outputs: 210 @ 1750rpm (5-speed manual) and 228 @ 1900 (6-speed manual). The 6-speed version is quicker and more economical.

But the Octavia is a SKODA!!!!
Couldnt do it however great they are... i'd be a laughing stock!
Edited to say that the PD 130 engine is a classic.. responds well to superchip as well i understand...

The Leon's have just got the PD130 in "SE" form and the PD150 in "Cupra" trim. Both chip to over 180hp & 300lb/ft if you want something for the weekend As previously loads of info here...

Skoda is the same car, just cheaper so if your not a badge snob save some money & buy the Skud. Its also fun blowing people off in a Skoda & explaining to Audi owners how you saved many thousands on buying what is basically the same car.
We now have 2 Octavias & they are 100% reliable & better screwed together than the Previous Vectra & Impreza
re Re-mapping the 110 will go to 160+ bhp & 390+ Nm of torque + improved mpg provided you dont thrash (enjoy) it
