Kit car winter build suggestions?
#2
I fancy building a kit car over the winter to do a few track day's and the odd road blast now and again. The question is what to go for? I don't really want to go down the Westfield/Caterham route as I fancied somthing a little different and the kit's seem a little on the expensive side.
Any suggestion's welcomed but my main criteria is re-sale value if I get bored with itI'd at least like to break even on it.
So go on, what would everyone else go for?
Cheer's.
Mac.

I've just done this same thing.
I looked into the Caterham/Westfield/Dax thing, and found it all to be a little too far out of budget for a sunday car.
Started doing some exploring, and have been totally immersed in the kit car scene, at the cost of my other cars.
I know the cost of a Dax, as my girlfriend's father and I have been putting together his Tojeiro, and the cost has escalated!
As such, I went to up to see the folks at Tiger Racing, on both open days this year, had several long chats with the people concerned, and have purchased the starter kit for a Tiger Avon.
Sure, it's no power monster, but it's powered by a 2.0 zetec, the build looks fairly straightforward, and the customer service so far has been excellent.
You could do a lot worse - check out the link:

Hi mark how's thing's?
I know what you mean about the Manta's, but if I stacked it I'd never get the panels to sort it out!!! I've actually sold the 1.9 SR to Kev Finney, so it will hit the show scene again.
I like the look of that Marcos even if it is the "budget" version. Do you think it would go well with an Evo 5 motor in it???

If I were building a marcos I think id be tempted to try something a bit different like that . Perhaps an alfa v6, or even one of their 16v boxers. I will have a marcos one day, oh yes!

Very, very good idea to get someone else's part-built kit that they've given up on, as it happens a lot. Dad sold his 2.8 Sumo (Cobra) for under five grand eventually, all parts to finish including Halibrand wheels, already passed MoT and registration, just needed the dash and carpets doing, but he couldn't be bothered. Must have cost him 12-15k to get it that far.
