Nissan 300SX Turbo/ None Turbo
#1
I owned a Z for a year , loved it to bits.
The only reason I changed it was because of the kids getting too big. Drive a nice Scooby now , but really miss the Z.
My only advice would be ( obvious) take a while and look for a good one. The Z board ( used to be a member ) is a good place to find a looked after example. http://www.300zx.co.uk
They need looking after but are sh1tloads of fun and look gorgeous IMO.

Best car I've ever owned, stupid fast, handles amazing (though back end can get a bit scary sometimes, usually predictable though). Gonna deffo be buying another soon, turbo version should be getting about 18mpg though so not so cheap to run. The seats are the comfiest of any car I've owned. Brakes are **** as std though. Can easily get another 50-60hp out of it for about another £10.
If he's gonna get one make sure he takes someone that knows em inside out or he could end up with some very big bills. I looked at 3 with my friend & they were all dogs with turbos on the way out/running probs.
Oh & it'll destroy a Scoob in a straight line stock vs stock & with RLTC I could take em on the corners too.

According the Superlative One from supercars.net forums
When you own a Z, you will forget what car you are driving, but people will envy you. Your blow off valve (dump valve with explode into 18 pieces) and require you to get out of the car, glue it all back together. You will need to change the oil every 2K miles with Mobil 1 no less, and the oil filter from some special motorsport brand called O.E.M.
It is an "exotic" mind you, and in the "real world" it can beat 326 HP Supras anytime of the day.

Don't thank me, thank Superlative One. He's adding more and more comments to his growing list of classics.

We should all envy him:
"you could never understand. Take you for example, you own an eclipse, a sorry *** 140Hp FWD sissymobile. If I drove a car like that I would TRY to forget that I drove one wherever I went. Now in my case crawling into a Z is one of the finer feelings on earth, starting up the car and unleashing 436RWHP at the will of your right foot has some pleasure in it. Strapping into the newly installed 4 point harness, putting in a good CD and enjoying a nice sunday afternoon drive up a tight canyon road invokes a feeling that cannot be had while driving a monstrosity of a car called a WS6 or while driving a 140HP FWD car. enthusiast's understand each other. you are obviously not even close to the purity of turbo charged power."

Uhm...well, they don't have blow off / dump valves as they have re-circs instead and I've never heard of one "blowing up".
The oil is ideally changed every 3K miles with semi- or fully synthetic, depending on how many miles and your driving style. This is for a turbo, obviously, the non-turbo doesn't need it as often.
They are approx 300bhp out of the box and sneezing near the engine will get you 450-500 easily. Mine's currently close to 400bhp.
When the parallel turbos come in you get such a kick that it's stupid, leaving many cars as a small speck in the RVM. Few cars can keep up with them, I've found and it annoys the hell out of people when they realise they've just lost to a girl.
Back end can be a bit tail end happy, but you can put traction control on to stop that happening as much, unless you like a bit of tail end action.
Best car I've ever owned. Regular maintenance and servicing are worth their weight in gold.
Japanese Non-Turbos are more expensive to insure than UK turbos. All Jap specs are automatic, UKs had a manual option. Leather interior with the alcantara is the Mark2 and up so 1992 (K) reg, anything before that is Mk1 which comes with cloth interior.
Hope this helps.

...typical 300ZX owner. A Blow of Valve is still a Blow off valve, recirculating or not. My Supra's BOV is recirculating too, it's no big thing and nothing exclusive to Nissan 300ZX's.
