I've got one (well a 172 Cup, actually) - 12000 mile service cost me £150ish. Mpg - always above 35, no matter what, and got 42.6mpg on a 600 mile round trip to portsmouth and back. Insurance for me is £450 per year, but I am 33 with 8 years ncb. Good luck!

Make sure you get a good warranty as you will be in the dealers often. I have had mine 2.5 yrs and have had enough now. ITs not funny the amount of problems i have had. Have a search through here if you want more info, i cant be arsed to post it all up again.

well sounds affordable enough to me my main worry was insurance. since il be working offshore money isn't realy a problem. dont think a 172 would be a bad first car.

I bought my 172 from new in 2001 (Y reg) it was the first of the new shape . I've not had any major problems Apart from a few niggles and rattles.. The car has done me good.
The reno aftercare though are one of the worst I have delt with..

The car its self is a hoot to drive but I find the driveing postion to high apart from that I cant fault it..

Some of the guys on the Clio forum were saying renult are going to stop making the 172 (not cup) by the end of this year??

If you have more questions Ive sent you an email with my email address

Cheers
John
