A mate of mine rallies a RWD Pug 205. It is currently fitted with an asthmatic 1600 x-flow and he keeps chopping and changing his mind about what to put in it next.

Current options are:

1/ Go to play in the woods in the BTRDA with a 1400cc engine. Vauxhall power is the way to go in taht series but he fancies something different. Remember it's RWD so could be costly to convert some engines.

2/ Fit a 2ltr 16v Vauxhall. Bit boring but relatively cheap power, and well proven.

3/ Fit a screaming Honda S2000 or Civic/Integra Type-R engine. It'd be different, the S2K engine is already RWD, and there seems to be loads of stacked S2000's out there.

Does anybody know of any Honda engines for sale from the S2000 or Civic/Integra? Or any breakers for that marque?

Any other ideas for an engine transplant?

Thumbs up

From what you've listed I'd say the Vauxhaul route (though it pains me to say it, being a big hater of all things GM). As you say, it's a proven engine and there's stacks of off the shelf bits for them, I've already seen them fitted to mkII Escorts for example.

1400, that's just dull

S2000, Firstly I should imagine they'd cost a fortune? Then are they're enough/any aftermarket suppliers to help you out, I should imagine stock road parts would last very long in a rally car!

What about a nice cossie lump, there's a 4wd cossie 106 doing some rallies, that makes some progress....why not a scoob engine!

Good luck and hopefully I'll see you on the stages soon!

Cheers for the suggestions chaps.

He used to road rally a Corolla AE86 and the Twin Cam is one of the options we have discussed.

Trouble is, he has finally realised that mincing about on airfields is not where its at and wants to try his hand in the woods. Hence the 1400 idea, as they run at the front in the BTRDA and the competition is great.
BUT, he also wants to do some proper tarmac rallies (did the Harry Flatters over Epynt in August) Otterburn etc so needs something with some oomph for those. If he goes more than 1400cc he has to run at the back of the field in the ruts if he goes into the twigs.

Dilema eh, he's worse than a wench for changing his mind.

K-Series is a cracking engine, expensive to tune though. Zetec is also a good choice.

Talking of Cossie powered 4x4 specials, have you seen the 4x4 Cossie powered KA. Its such a nice piece of kit. It doesnt seem to work though as a rally car though, looks the part mind.

I wonder if Andy Burton has a spare Cosworth V6 he doesnt need anymore......

I'd go for the VX too. Relatively cheap to tune

.. although he should consider the 1.6 which is usefully lighter. How about Hayabusa power?

Bike engines are cheap power, but they are all revs with bugger all torque, and pretty useless in the forests. They sound sweet though!

They are also not eligible for the BTRDA if you want to score points.

Doh, can't believe I didn't think earlier! What about an Mi16 engine?

I saw the Ka cossie on the Kall Kwik last year, looked to go well, didn't see the results though
