Easy and safe to mod to over 300bhp.

Test drove an S4 Avant last week.

Very solid. Nice engine (loads of torque).

All I can say is don't believe the road tests, but try each car yourself and make your own mind up.

The new S4 is 340odd bhp, but a NA 4.2 V8 so not easily tuned unlike the older turbo model. Although one tuning company (can't remember which) claim they can still get 400bhp from it with a remap and exhaust etc.

Bit of a stealth machine - no flared arches or exuberant body kits (good or bad?)

Thumbs down

had an old shape s4 (twin turbo type). sounds great on paper, was total **** on the road. i hated that car so much i sold it back to the dealer for 2k less within weeks just to be rid of it!
avoid at all costs!
sorry to be negative, and one mans food is another mans poison etc etc, but the s4 was probably the biggest letdown and worst performance car i ever owned.it was crap, no other words for it. oh, the stereo was good

I'm looking at similar cars myself - although my budgeting still requires some serious work!

The CLK is apparently more of a grand tourer than the Audi or BMW. If I wasn't so tall I'd go for the M3 but have to admit the S4 engine has got a lovely sound ... mmmmmmm v8. If you've got the budget, the RS6 is supposed to be a bit of a giggle.

A lightly modded Scoob is a straight line match, if not a lttle quicker. A modded S4 will leave scoobs on the track though but not that involving to drive.
