Range Rover classic

I've always fancied one of these for lugging stuff around and towing my track car - anyone got any experiences of just how unreliable these are, and how much they're realistically going to cost to run?
Looking at a late model diesel - pref 300tdi soft dash model...

Soft Dash model best by far, I ran a 1993 K reg 3.9 V8 - fuel consumption was manic, but a great car to have owned.
The 300 TDi is one of the best engines to have in the Classic (in my opinion).
You will probably get one with Air Con and the adjustable suspension on the later model (will have sunroof and lost of electrical toys).
PS I think the soft dash came on the L or 1994 cars onwards.

Was the adjustable suspension on all late models or just the LSE - I hear they are a nightmare of unprededented proportions...
You know when you always 'just fancy' owning one?
Alternative is to get a cheaper petrol one, as I really fancy the V8 and LPG it...

I used to own a LSE 2 years ago and I converted it to LPG. Due to a bad conversion it ruined the car, and there's no LPG refuelling near me any more. The LSE came out in late 92 and the air suspension was also made standard on the SE at the same time. Soft dash came in 1994 L on all Classics but good ones are getting pretty rare. I wouldn't worry too much about the air suspension - the viscous locking diff is more of a worry and more expensive to put right.
In my spare time I buy Land Rover dealer part exchanges, run them for a few weeks/months then sell them on. Therefore I am quite experienced in how much to pay and what to look for. If you decide exactly what you're looking for I may be able to help. Can I interest you in a 1997R Discovery Tdi?

that's a good point if theres' one thing better than a flat four boxer, it's a good ol' V8. One prob is the LPG tanks take up boot space - unless you can get underfloor tanks - I'll have to look into it...
cheers guys!
