Whatever Next?????

Sadly, it is time for the Scoob to go, She is a lovely 97P Sti V3. Unfortunately after 12 years of company fuel card & unlimited free private mileage, the company is now changing that to 12p per business mile & no free private miles :-( . So I need to sell the Scoob (whatever it is worth!?) & get something sensible.....ish!. An Ideas anyone? I want to spend between 8-10k & at the moment I am most interested in a Honda Accord Type-R. which has 200BHP (Easily upped to 260BHP!) & still a respectable 33MPG (Combined). Is there anything else that can come close to this???? Any ideas (or Accord Type-R owners that wanna swap) welcome!!

Saab? Still keep turbo, easily tuned and dramatically more economical than ur Scoob (if driven sensibly!). You also get a far more relaxing cruise than you will in the Type R.
e.g. a 2002 9-3 Aero - 205 BHP, 280NM chipped to 260 BHP @ http://www.maptun.co.uk/ecu/9-3/20T205bhp0003/index.html
My 2p.
ps on a long gentle run I can peak 40mpg.

How do you up the Type R by that amount easily?
I thought these were stressed engines that wouldn't go much further without spending loads?
Not picking, I'm not up on V-Tech knowledge.

Yeah, my thinking too.
Even the so called 'best' chips for turbocharged cars don't claim that much of a hike.
A 30% increase in power from a chip in an N/A car sounds about 10 times too optimistic.

No way on earth will the 4 cyl n/a H22A engine respond to a chip with 44 horses. I'm sorry but if your mate is claiming this he's either been misled lied to, cheated, lots of things but he definitely has not aquired 44 extra bhp. If you see 10 hp you'd be damned lucky.

STD ATR's are 209bhp from the factory, but unfortunatly there is a lack of tuning parts available for it, to get 260 bhp out of an ATR is only via a supercharger conversion or a lot of cam/exhaust/head work and were talking major pence for that little lot. SC conversions can be had for around £3500 which take the H22A7 engine upto and around the 260 brake mark, although i guess traction would become an issue here.
Outright power isn't what type R's are about anyway, the car is a total package and excels very well in all areas, with little change needed from factory.
Tuning parts come something like this
H&S full exhaust system including decat and replacement lower manifold or a mugen system if you have really deep pockets
Replacement panel filter or equivelent induction kit or again a replacement mugen airbox, again deep pockets required
Unichip piccyback ECU purely to take full advantage of previous mods
Piper fast road cam kit or equivelent
Enlarged throttle body assembly
You could spend money on the head but the ATR is hand polished/ported from the factory so not to sure if matched inlets/exhaust ports would really gain that much for the cost.
Oh and nitrous (best left for Kevin methinks)
If you need any more info pop over to Honda Revolutions plenty of ATR owners willing to share info on ownership tuning etc.
Oh one last thing you'd be luck to get 23 mpg when pressing on

Remember, even thought the company only gives you 12p per mile you can claim 40p per mile back off the tax man.
I ran an STi 3 for 2 years, company paid me for all company mileage and I still got over 1k back from the tax man each year.

Try an Octavia RS or 4x4. Got my Octy RS for £9,600 with 25,000 miles on it. You should be abel to pick up a used 4x4 for less. Both versions can be chipped for about £400 up to 220-230bhp (have same engine with the Rs stock 180bhp and the 4x4 150bhp). They are very reliable and get 35mpg on the combined cycle. For more info try briskoda.net .

If u don't mind a RWD then test out a Mk1 200sx, mpg isn't as bad as scoob and performance is cool, you can pick up decent ones REALLY cheap these days too. Admittedly the interior is a bit dull though!
I used to own one, but prefer the 4x4 of my scoob!
