M3 Killer....VIII FQ-300
#1
Hi all!
I love the look of M3s, but like many of you, I would never buy one because of the image......they really do appear to be driven by t***ers who think they are driving Gods with a lane of the motorway reserved for them. I had a few run-ins with them in my beloved Scoob, with a 50-50 success rate. However, my new beast totally destroys them.....and not just in the windies either.....the looks on their faces are priceless.
And believe me.....they were trying very hard, with one almost in the hedgerows trying to catch me!
IMHO the M3 would only have the edge in a straight line beyond say 130mph, as confirmed in the recent 0-100-0 shoot-out in Autocar recently.....the Evo blitzed the M3!
Cheers

As a big M3 fan i'd hold my hands up and say an EVO 8 would be quicker in the twisties and a fq300 would be a pretty even match in a straight line.
but imo i'd have the M3, still like the fun that rwd offers, the power delivery n/a offers and the toys, quality, comfort that BMW offer..

speaking as an evo owner, i would rather have the m3 why? imho, evo's beyond the evo6 dont do it for me, and lets be honest, evo's/scoobies etc only have one string to their bow, i.e. going very fast. m3 goes very fast, yet cossets the driver, has a wonderful interior, runs on normal fuel, can be serviced at your local dealer, no de-cats to worry about come mot time etc etc etc.
think im getting old

Hmmm a match to 100 maybe but from them onwards i dont think so, you wont see an M3 for dust.
Autocars 0-100-0 is bollocks.
FQ300 fantastic car though, wish i could convince the wife to let me have one! (turns green with envy)

The M3 can be a lot quicker... you just put in a cheap dash, remove the toys and put thinner body panels on etc.
My point is that you can't just compare one aspect of two cars. If that was the case, a base level A3 driver could conclude that his car is better then yours, based on interior quality.
The tricky task is producing a car that is comfortable when you want it to be, has the toys for when you want to use them, and is quick for when you want - e.g. S4, RS4, RS6, M3, M5 etc etc
The Evo is a fantastic car, but having driven one, I would get fed up with it after a few weeks - why? because in the real world you get the chance to 'use' comfort more then performance. If you get a car that does both, you are laughing!

Probably (and I am guessing) because you have to almost break the cars to get these times - side stepping off the clutch and power shifts - i.e. you could never get those times unless you hate your car
I would suggest the same test, but recognising people like to keep their cars after one 0-100 test, using a SMG gearbox, or Audi's DSG. You will see the relative times improve dramatically - they both have launch control and gear changes in miliseconds, without damaging the car.

Have to agree with M3 Evo.
Autocar have already tested the M3 at 0-60 in 4.8secs and 0-100 in 11.5secs, so whilst the Evo would have the quicker set off, the M3 would be closing it down all the time and then pass it and pull away.

Oh no here we go again!!!!
Please please please can we have a sticky M3 thread at the top of the Other Marques forum.
Everyone knows the M3 is the best car in the world and certainly can't be beaten in any area by anything made by Subaru or Mitsubishi so please stop saying it can
tiggers.

An M3 diesel - yeah go for it - it'd still be the best car in the world and all the M3 owners who've spent £40K on their car can wax lyrical about the fuel consumption as well as everything else.
Maybe the improved fuel consumption would enable them to save up for a new VANOS
tiggers.

I've never really understood terms like "totally destroys" - could you explain?
If we're honest, if one "car A" does 0-60 in 5.4, 0-100 in 13 seconds, and "car B" does 0-60 in 4.5, 0-100 in 11, the actual "ON THE ROAD" difference would be what, a couple of car lengths? "Car B" would still seem to have "Car A" hanging on!
I think "totally destroys" is an ideal description of the difference between an Enzo and a Fiesta 1.0, but not between such performance cars as discussed here. They're all mighty similar in reality.
Incidentally.... The CSL has been tested 0-60 @ 4.5, 0-100 @ 10.8. Totally destroys the FQ300

Cant remember off the top of my head what the FQ300 time is but the M3's time is identical to that of last years 0-100-0 run, in which it beat an evo7 by a full second. So the test was not repeated for both cars in the same conditions and i hardly think that the extra 20 or so bhp the FQ has over the standard car could make around two and a half seconds!
Plus how many times will an Evo driver sidestep his clutch off the line from 7k rpm??
Best representation is 60-100 time where the M3 eats the evo whole.

I'd rather have the Mitsubishi myself as I don't want to be associated with a ***** car.
Appologies to the few sensible M3 ownrrs out there and probably on here too.
When you see how most M3s are driven on the M25 it really makes you wonder if you need to have some kind of metal problem to have one.
Not my cup of tea at all but can see why people like them.

And someone should avoid Imprezas and EVOs because they usually are driven by internet whiners who are so self-aware of their own image therefore they *ALL* drive Imprezas/EVOs in order to not look like a ******?
These cars are just machines, not extensions to your own personality. If you guys are low on self esteem, go see a therapist, don't hate on a collection of metal parts. Really!

I would imagine that an M3 on the M25 looks exactly like an Evo/Impreza on the M25
STATIONARY!
Anyway, somebody change the record as this thread is completely boring and has been discussed numerous times already.

Well said Cosworth.

I'm sorry, but what a load of sh*te!! Which M25, in which country on which planet do you travel on? Please do tell me what 99% of M3 drivers on the M25 do?
================================================== ==================
I'd rather have the Mitsubishi myself as I don't want to be associated with a ***** car.

You seem to be a t*at, what car do you drive as, according to you, the two seem interconnected?
