The "s" is the car that saved TVR ..I was 17 when it came out and have loved the shape ever since. The wife thinks other wise like your GF..The V8S is a MOTHER....BUY ONE BUY ONE..You wont loose a load after a few years of ownership as well..

I had an S3 before the STi. It was a lovely car to look at, and sounded great. They are reasonably cheap to run. The handling is pretty good (by the standards of TVRs of that period ). You have to be a little bit careful with it in the wet, and with no PAS you need to work to put on lock in a hurry (or park...).
The build quality is not what you would expect from a mass produced car, but considering the price and the age it really isn't too bad.
YOu get a fantastic impression of speed in them, and nothing beats a good blast along country roads in one of these, on a sunny day, top down. They attract a lot of positive attention too. Don't expect to be able to hear the stereo though.
Overall I had a great time with mine. I only ran it as a "weekend" car and I would say you'd need to be pretty dedicated to use it as daily transport. I got rid of mine as I was running 3 cars and it didn't get used enough. I would say these sort of cars suit people who like to do a bit of fiddling about and fixing in thier spare time. Check out the S3 forum at pistonheads for more info.

heh was reading bout the S3, says it was 12,995 when it was new.
Looks kinda like mini 911 from the front.
Checked them out a bit, the 3 litre V6 woudl be what I could afford I think. Same engine thats in the granada 3 litre, so surely chepa enough to maintain? Only 170 odd bhp on a good day, but nice amounts of torque, as disappointed with 0-60 in 6.8secs tho.
