If you had a budget of £30k, what decent performing coupe would you get? Need to be able seat 2 adults and 2 kids.

new, second hand, or coming soon a possibility!

So far I intend to look at the Mazda RX8, maybe a Merc CLK, but what else?

Can you get any 4 seater porkers at all?

cheers,

greg

you could definitely get a good Porsche 993 for that budget. For info have a look at www.911virgin.com

At £30k you could do worse than TVR Cerbera. Found quite a few like this on Autotrader.

2000 W Reg TVR Cerbera 4.0 Speed Six
Purple Paradise, Coupe, 11,000 miles , 2 Doors. Air Conditioning, Alloy Wheels, Electric Windows, Electric wing mirrors, One Owner, Power steering.Portland and nimbus grey half hide and purple carpets and white dials. Includes TVR no plate, 6CD player upgraded head unit and speakers. and TVR overmats. One owner supplied and serviced by ourselves.Visit our website www.henley-tvr.com for more cars. (We are acting as an agent on the sale of this vehicle) £29,995.

Another option would be getting a cheap saloon (Ford Mundane/Vauxwhore Vectra et al) and spend £28k or so on a joy machine for you. Then you could be talking Boxster/S2000/Elise/VX220, or alternatively look at Evo's & Imprezas. OK not as cool looking as true coupes, but spectacular and practical. If it must be a coupe the choice is a tad limited for 4 seats. Alfa GTV, TT, Pug 406 or BMW 3series.

Good hunting.

I wouldn't go for a TVR is half the stories be true!

The RX-8 sounds like a great car, and looks like the rear seats might actually be useful. However, you may have difficulty sourcing one - check with the dealer.

VW seem to have dropped their plans for a Passat coupe, but hope springs eternal that the Tudor may find the light of day under a Skoda badge

I'd be going down the M5 / E55 route if I were you, but if you must have a coop, then CLK55's are amazingly cheap for a car that can cost £90k specced up.

Gotta be M3/5.

The running costs and issues of reliability with the other cars mentioned must put them out of the picture.
