Very fast, look gorgeous, less reliable than a 20yr old Renault.

Shame really

Cool

Got on last weekend, a 98 4.2, very nice. Do lots of research, make sure you know what you are letting yourself in for. Exepect £3k in maintance a year, plus petrol and insurance. And remember the cars are hand built !!!!!

I posted a few details on another Cerbera thread a few weeks back...
And here are those details

I owned a Cerbera for a year...

Twitchy under braking, fast as **** on the straights, fairly crude on the twisty stuff, lovely interior and driving position...

0-100 in 9 secs so quite a bit faster than a Scooby, the 4.5 can get to 150mph in 17 secs btw..

An absolute nightmare to own, I did lots of searching before I thought I got a good one..

Too many faults to mention here honestly, took 17 weeks for the factory to rebuild the AJP8 engine when it went bang, got it back only for it to break down 12 miles down the road...

Poor dealers and factory IMO..even wrote to Peter Wheeler in person twice without reply..

Takes a few of weeks to get used to the car, still doesnt inspire confidence IMO, I'm faster down a favorite B road in my MINI...

Make sure you get a good one..it's trying to find a good one which is the problem.

Oh well what the hell...

Wipers failed
Boot badge switch always playing up
Aircon pipe fractured losing all Gas
Overheated in traffic
Auxillary Shaft on engine snapped, losing power steering & oil pressure
Rear Anti roll bar brkt snapped
offside bonnet retractable stay fractured, bonnet would rise over 90mph
Eventually engine went bang and throw a rod, 17 wks for TVR to fix
Starter motor jammed
Exhaust snapped @ joint
Needed running for ten mins from cold, if not car would stall

Might be a couple of other things I havent mentioned....

I loved driving it, fast as **** if a little crude and excellent and unique driving position and interior, finding a good one maybe a problem..

Always get from a Dealer with a warranty..mine was off the road for nearly 6th mths in 12mths of ownership

Well thats done it for me. Was going to look at getting one of these towards the end of the year but these comments have certainly put me off. £3k a year I can live with but unreliability is another matter.

STI 8 PPP or Evo 8FQ now......

or TVR Cerbera. Damn.

unless you need the extra seats why not look at a TVR chimera....i drove an evo7 FQ300 had was, quite frankly, bored by it. got back in the TVR and it realised there was no way i would go from TVR to Evo. Evo may have been quicker round the corners but i expect a train can corner faster than me as well- i dont want a train either!

T

ps- my TVR is more reliable than my scoob was.

Question

Can an adult fit in the back of a Cerbera, even for short journeys? About this 3k maintenance a year. How does that add up when I've read that the services tend to be about £400-£600 on average. What's the sevice interval and does that 3k include new tyres and fixing things that break...?

Someone 5ft or so will just about fit...even then only for short journeys.

Service intervals; 6,000 miles or 12 months. Got all the service invoices with mine, and they don't add up to 3K a year!

I know 5 ex TVR owners who will never ever own a TVR again, like me I got stung...beware they are poorly built kit cars.

If you worry about the running costs you shouldnt buy one

You need to buget £3k a year, but wont always use is could be £1k for the first year for gen servicing, rubber etc and £5k for the engine rebuild in the second year. Remember a clutch will cost in the region of £1k.

Had mine now for two weeks and no problems other than getting a child seat to fit. There is more space behind the passenger seat as it is placed further forward, would not like to be sat in it for long.

A friend has a 4.5, likely to be up for sale soon as it's so unreliable. Last weekend the accelerator cable snapped, and he was told by the dealer they have 3 a week!! This is in addition to the wipers not working when it rains, the boot leaking, appalling paint quality (even by Scoob standards), an oil leak, all in the first 10 months.
