Porsche 550 Spyder.

I would be almost certain it's a replica.

Well, you would not leave a real one on a street unless you were mental.

I'm pretty sure that a good friend of mine owned that car a few years ago - we called it the 'Spoda'.

550 replica based on a Skoda engine. He'd had the engine rebuilt by someone that knew them well, and it would push along quite briskly.

Always got some nice looks when he trawled it along the Kings Road - as you do.

It looked old and original to me (but what do I know ). It is not usually parked there as I have never seen it there before or since. It was only parked there for a short while also....

Matt

P.S. How much if it was real would it be worth?

Now I see why people think it's likely to be a replica - the original was just a race car which is extremely rare!!

A good replica can be well over 20K...

... the originals are so rare now, that when they do crop up for sale they tend to be circa 250K+

Like has been said, if it was original, you wouldn't leave it sat there without an armed security guard next to it.

That looks like a replica 718 RSK not a 550 spyder.....

550 Spyder
718 RSK/RS60

Funnily enough I've just been looking at Porsche Cars GB's 550 Spyder this very evening. I broke the handbrake lever - I kid you not (well, it was clearly broken already, but it came away in my hand...)

The 550 has slightly different front end treatment and that is definitely a replica - the real thing doesn't have all that namby-pamby upholstery across th eback of the cockpit.

I think £300k+ is nearer the mark for the real thing than £250k, based on a chap I know quite well selling his recently (again I kid you not). That said i think his had the Carrera engine rather than a basic 1,500.

They had a 550 spyder on show at Porsche UK, Reading.
The chap their said its estimated value is between £750000 and £1million

Obviously prices vary according to condition, production number etc.. but either way you wouldn't leave it parked on the street

Gastro - that's be the one I saw last night - it was shipped down for the opening of the new Exeter Porsche Centre. Funny little short handbrake lever...

.....it was just a race car - but a road going race car that James Dean was killed driving - hence they're quite infamous. Almost the 22b of its day...

Apparently hellishly difficult to drive though..... Ask Mr Dean, who (IIRC) found corners could be difficult to take at serious speed.

I also had this response from someone else who seems to know what they are talking about:

The car is a replica Porsche 718/ RS60 distant (later)cousin of 550
