now I aint been too complimentary about the little ricer mobile in the past but I have to say they are fookin quick

I wasted a Boxster S (he was trying, cause he's a mate) at the weekend and he told me the Boxster is quicker than the S2000 but when I ran against one last night I could not make an impression on it

I think it was modded because it had a twin big bore system on it, anyway it was flying so hats off

Can you mod the E36 M3 engine, I don't need my *** whipped by a ricer. Can you chip the Beemer and would Schnitzer exhaust release a few horses?

Question

Nat, were you near sixfields last night?

I followed a cab for a bit - a dark coloured one.

If you want to meet up I would like a butchers at a 3.2 cab......and hear it!

it was not a standard exhaust. I've been out in one which was bog standard and the exhaust was too loud to be stock

I might get mine dyno'd in case it's losing power somewhere. Thing is I was able to haul a couple of car lengths on the BoxsterS but with the S2000 I was just level pegging and not able to make any impression at all

trouble with these ricers you never know if they are standard or not

. I was in a 911 3.2 cab, he was definately quicker but not by a huge amount, pulling of the roundabouts in 2nd with him ahead he'd pull a 7-8 car length gap before the next one....
That is a massive differece!!!! Thats similar to the difference between my car and a 106GTI. 275bhp v 120bhp!!!

There is no way a standard S2k would keep up with an E36 M3- 240 bhp vs 321 (if your is the Evo) - and the S2k while ferociously fast for a 2 lt has nothing like the torque of either your car or the Boxster S.

I happen to have a test drive in an S2k booked for next Sat as a replacement for my 2.7 Boxster and I have a feeling that they will be about the same in a straight line - the 2000 may be quicker, but I can not imagine the Honda will be anywhere near as composed through the bends and that matters more to me.

Mine is the Evo 321bhp version

I am in the car business so get to drive quite a lot of diffent cars, I know traders etc

If you are going to go back to back 2.7 Box to an S2000 then you are going to notice it like you would if going from a 2.7 to a 3.2Box

Not sure about the S2000 in the twisties but in a straight line like I say we were holding station and that was not what I was expecting. I know the vanos unit is a weakness of the M3 so wondering if maybe it's not giving as much kick

I have been caning it so hoping I've not ****d the engine

Well I was pleasantly surprised by the S2000...

We had one in our group to the 'Ring in May. Plenty of scoobs (inc. 22B), Audi S3, latest BMW M3, Focus TDi, and the S2000.

The S2000 was a revelation around the 'Ring and had real poise and power.

On the way home we all had more of a play and the S2000 surprised everyone with its in-gear acceleration.

My missus had been driving a Porsche 996 and Boxster S the previous weekend at Mallory Park, and having been passengered around the 'Ring in the S2000 she thought it easily outclassed the Boxster...

I guess it wasn't the S2000 I saw down at Powerstation the other week.

Perfomance wise, there's really nothing in it between a Boxster S and an S2000. Seen road and track tests comparing the performance and the cornering speeds etc. and each way there's no more than .1 or .2 of a second lost or gained here and there.

Maybe the S2000 driver was better and quicker than the Boxster driver?

The 'mod' sounds like the HKS exhaust which doesn't really enhance performance and is mainly bought coz it makes louder noises at lower rpm.

The S2000 is so highly tuned that it's not really 'moddable' like a scoob or suchlike. You're only gonna get the odd horse power here or there by mods (unless you go the supercharger route! ) which very few have done.

BTW - M3's aren't invincible you know it may have 80bhp more but I believe the M3 is a) heavier, b) longer geared and c) more drivetrain bhp losses than the s2000. So while the M3 at 321bhp should still be faster, it's probably closer to 50+bhp rather than 80+bhp. Not sure how much difference on the road that makes though. Could be wrong of course and the S2000 you encountered HAS got a supercharger (but you'd have heard the difference! )

You are making me feel better, perhaps he just got the jump on me right gear and all that

We backed off before the ton so maybe over a ton the 321brake would come more into play

Red face

I own an S2000 and can tell you that a normal Boxster is no match for it however the Boxster S is more comparable.

Don't know why you refer to the S as a ricer? But anyway, my car is not standard.

I have a dual titanium Amuse exhaust which weighs only 5.8kgs whereas the stock system weighs 23kgs! Dyno results indicate that it puts out 8 rwhp. I also have a cold air feed (Spoon) with a Spoon free flowing air filter.

Never had the chance to run with a E36 M3 but would think 321 should easily take an S. But then again I've had the opportunity.

Here's some pics.

Tuned S2000 are very very very rare, to get any serious improvement on standard it would have to be supercharged, Exhaust, Filter, Manifold = 5-10BHP if your lucky. I wasted a Boxter S in my ole 1.6 CTR.

I do think the E36 M3s sound better than the E46. A colleague at work has one and it sounds awful at full chat!

no offence peeps all jap cars are ricers

I'm into German motors myself, I like my M Power

Well chances are then it wasn't modded which is all the more impressive. Like I say the BoxsterS of my mates I pulled a couple of lengths on but hey he might have been down on power himself who knows

I do run light if I know a dual is on. I had a full tank up against the S2000, if he had an empty one I suppose this could make the difference

The standard exhaust on the S is not restrictive at all. It's just heavy. Gains from an exhaust are very limited. The Amuse dual I have is not cheap (£1500incl tax and delivery)but offers a reasonable gain.

Didn't wanna leave you hangin', brother.

Over the ton, I expect the BHP & improved aerodynamics (Coupe vs Roadster) would have proved your point...

That autospeed link was discussed at length on the S2000 forum. for a start S2000 dyno at 200 - 210 at the wheels in stock form.

They probably had a factory duff model!

The BoxsterS was voted above the S2000 on a circuit by 5th Gear a while back

Mind u I'd take a S2000 over a BoxsterS if it includes Vicky Butler Henderson
