They can paint it all pink with a big sign on it saying the driver of this car smokes monkey pole for all i care, i only buy cars for how they drive (have you seen a sti 7?), the current 996 is the best 911 ever made so that makes it the best car ever and this model is the best one yet

I think it looks the mutts nuts - stunning car. Always loved the 911 - wasn't too sure about the 996 - but they are growing on me. Sat in a beautiful GT3 at AFN Reading a few weeks back - totally gob smacking car. I know where I will be the day I win the lottery
Neighbour of mine has a 911 on order (build date 7 July - as he delights in telling me (I'll deck him one day )) with the GT2 body kit and lots of lovely extras - not a GT3RS but still a stunning car and I'm down for the first passenger ride
GT3RS is a stunning car - put me down for one (please)

I think the retro look sucks TBH!!! It's a shame they haven't lost more than 50kgs and that the power hasn't been hiked either. For the price increase, I think it's a little bit of a rip off. If I was a GT3 owner, I'd be quite happy with my "standard", non "limited edition" model

The 924/944/968 series will run rings around an equivalent aged 911 on handling
The GT3RS looks like a fab car but the graphics and wheels do look a bit silly. Wouldn't stop me from buying one though
PS [pedantic mode]
Hmmmm - I have to disagree - I'd have to say the Ruf Turbo R is..
[/pedantic mode]
I'll get me coat

Sorry i meant production cars, not stupid priced limited ultima cars like the Big Mac and modified cars like the RUFF 911s (i think they got a 600bhp 996 as well)
Only one person says the engines in the wrong place and hes a mohair jacket, jean wearing rapidly aproaching 50 year old lanky ****.
Agreed it has taken em 50 years i mean 30 years to get it right but they have done one hell of a job on it.
Anyway its my list and you cant have my pink 996 GT3RS with the driver smokes monkey pole on it anyway so ner ner ner

They stopped making the best 911 in 1973, IMHO. As for this one - it's supposed to pi$$ on the other "fast" Porkies round the Nurburgring because of its set-up. It might be under-powered (ha ha with over 380bhp!!) but it's normally aspirated, and hits 8200 rpm, so it's not going to be a slouch!!
Personally can't afford even the 1:18 model of it, so I don't know why I'm commenting...
Spoiler on the back looks naff though. Meccano anyone?

Great that they have at last brought back the RS name but the '73RS & 3.2 clubsport colours Uggh vile & do not suit the car, I personally prefer GT3's in yellow-
yum yum
or silver

.. in addition I know from a good source that there will be 2 more additions to the Porsche range...
Boxster RS - can't wait
996 GT - stripped out version of the standard with roll cage etc..
and probably a Boxster coupe....
The RS is a legend - the ethos has never been to 'hike the power up'... more to lighten and improve handling/attitude.
As many people will tell you (including Matt ) a Scooby with 400 bhp is fine on a drag strip - but utterly uselss on a track - without brakes, wheels, suspension setup correctly.
Long live the RS

I'd think we'd all agree that on the face of it, hanging the engine over the back axle ain't the best place for it.
However, you can't argue with 40 years of engineering. And let's face it - the boys in Stuttgart know more about these things than we do. Weight distribution has been pretty much sorted (40:60 split for a C4 if my memory serves me right) and judging by the general reviews the car receives, I think they've done a pretty good job.
You can't deny it is a very special car. I think perhaps in its 'lesser' formats (I use the word advisedly) it is more a grand tourer these days than an out and out sports car. But saying that, they do still produce the fabulous extreme models like the Turbo, GT3 & GT2.
In fact it is not unlike what Subaru have attempted to do - keep the WRX as the 'mainstream' performance car, whilst still producing the more extreme models such as the STI and S202 for those that still want a more raw sports car.
I would fully expect the new GT3RS to be nothing short of amazing. After all, this is the reason they produce things like the Cayenne, so that they can continue to build fab sports cars

There are some more lovely pictures in Auto Express this week. What a car. They reckon it will beat the GT3's record around Nurburgring. Given that it will still be 80 or 90 bhp down on a GT3, that is pretty impressive.

I think they are wrong. The RS has the same BHP as the standard GT3 but is about 80 bhp down on the 996 GT2 which has 462bhp. Te 996 GT2 is currently (i think) the fastest 911 production model around the ring
