Question

As NEW LABOUR are such thieving b@stards, a mate of mine is trading in his luvley S2000 and is looking at new clio diesel although it might be nearly new. He just can't afford the petrol anymore when he's doing 20k miles a year (he's got quite a heavy right foot)

What do you fine people think of them, 65 or 80 version is it worth the extra for the 80?
Are they reliable?
As good as I've heard?

Thanks

hi gti

we've got one in the house, the dci 65 version (80 wasnt available at the time)
very good engine+superb economy, needs a bit more puff in first and second (which is where the 80 would prob be better) 'usual' french build quality, will do but not the best!
also fantastic brakes abs + edb standard

hope that helps

btw the 80bhp does more mpg, aswell i think

My mate drives the 1.5DCi, its the 65bhp one, pretty nippy round town and returns a good mpg even though he nails it about everywhere... Build Quality isnt that bad, very cheap to run...

Cheers,
Grant

Bought the 1.5 dci 80bhp. Actually has a small turbo on it!

Quite nippy and get around 60mpg. Cruises at 99.9mph no problem

Diesel engine is pretty quite.

I just wish it had sports suspension, it's very soft especially the front end. I've had it bottom out on speed bumps and ramps.

It still handles quite well considering.

Right sounds good, so the 80 is the better bet? What model, Dynamique etc?

I recall reading in Car mag that they reckoned the DCi 80 was the most rational car you could buy.

I tried one a year or so back and found it much better than the 65 which was a bit lethargic. You have to put up with all the usual clio foibles though.

Another alternative is the Ibiza tdi 130 same engine as the golf tdi but weighs 200kgs less. Result is its faster than the golf tdi 150, bit pricier than the clio though.

After looking at the Clio thinks it maybe a bit small but is very impressed with the 80.
What are the thoughts on a Megane 1.4 (new model) I know bit slow but only for a year or so, what does people make of the styling?
Thanks

I'd go for the Ibiza...

If it gets too slow you can get a re-map which will take it to 184bhp and about 300lb/ft!!

Yeh thought that too but does the extra cost really make that much differene as it is alot more than the Clio? but 184bhp sounds damn good!
Thanks

Talking

I've got the Expression+ 15. dci 65 to put the mileage on instead of the scoob (notw ITR). It's great for nipping about, more unobtrusive to park and has got better in the acceleration game than it used to be. I've had mine from new and its doing well! Half a tank and I've done 362 miles
Can't remember what's on the dynamique but the only extra I was interested in was the air con - after market stuff is cheaper and better than the manufacturer's own in most cases.
New ad out right now for the 'Billabong' with free insurance too

My Wife had a petrol Expression Plus, and in 19K miles, all that needed attention was a rattle from the rear. Fixed 1st time under warranty. If it wasn't too small for us now, we'd have another like a shot.

Cheers
