Question

Well its time for a new company car and I have to have a Vauxhall.

Has anybody ever seen or driven an Astra GSI or Turbo Coupe.

I have been to a few garages today but not has ever had one in. Just need to know what they are like. Obviously no substitute for the old scoob but is it the best option from Vauxhall at the moment.

yep had a shot of a new 1 for 2 days and it was a big let down, grip in the wet was non existent and on typical B roads it was all over the road and the brakes faded badly after a couple of high speed runs, it was good on motorways though and the fuel consumption was good, but in the end i gave it back and asked for a basic astra as i didnt rate it at all.

I had one as a company vehicle pool car for 3 weeks

It was better than other Astra's but that isn't really saying much- a very good motorway car though, lots of mid range thrust.

Question

Right had my trip to speke and have driven the Astra GSI. Seemed reasonably quick and the steering and gearchange where not as bad as I was expecting.

I have now narrowed my choice of car to:
Astra GSI
Vectra SRI 2.2

Neither are ideal but they are the best cars on my list to choose from. Not sure which to order at the moment as the vectra was not available for a test drive owing to an ecu fault.

Hmmmmmm! decisions.

A bit of turbo fun or big and comfy.........

Had a GSi Turbo hatch for a while recently supplied by Subaru assistance whilst the Scoob was being fixed - which was very nice of them as I was expecting a Justy or something!

Great engine, looks the biz (especially on those 17"s) and went like a rocket in a straight line but why can't Vauxhall make a car that handles?? Torque steer was bordering on vicious! and when the roads got a bit choppy, forget it! Favourite roads that the Scoob takes in its stride the GSi just couldnt cope with. It never felt like you could grab it by the scruff of the neck and drive it hard round the bendy bits - it wouldnt even have kept up with my old 2.0 Focus!!

After 3 weeks I was just glad to get the Scoob back!

Right decision IMHO. The 2.2 Vectra is great at plodding up and down motorways, but isn't really sporty. The Astra has spool up us scooby drivers can only dream of - full torque by 1950rpm IIRC.

Well it arrived today and first impressions are quite good.

Pulls nice and smoothly to the redline. No big surge of boost like other cars .

But you end up moving deceptively quickly all the same.

Arden Blue is quite a nice colour. Just needs Gold Wheels.
