saw one today, i knew that the doors were big but not that big, a **** me the size of the hinges on them. how many exactly were sold because i've heard they've stopped making them because of sales targets.

Saw one at the tip (dropping off, not staying), it was stunning !

Superb looking thing in Mettalic blue, cant understand why no one bought them, they all buy bloody silver BMW's and Mercs , I suppose the residuals may be crap but the whole country seems obsessed with German cars, good they may be but god its boring seeing a procession of the same thing with slight difference in the numbers on the back.

Build quality is appalling, they were made my MATRA who I seem to remember also made the Rancho thing (won't call it a car).

They look pretty weird too, an odd concept a 2 door coupe people carrier thing. Basically a rebodied last generation Espace I think.

I heard they'd stopped making them too, summat to do with the shells flexing...enough to crack the screens apparently

There have been 346 Avantime's sold in the UK up until the end of last month. Most popular are the 3.0 V6 auto's with 176 sold. They have ceased production of the Avantime now as it was uneconomic to continue building them.

Matra who were building them also used to build the Espace for Renault. But the latest version of the Esapce launched late last year has been brought in house and will be built solely by Renault. Therefore Matra were left building the Avantime only, and with the sales not matching the forecasts, Reanult halted production due to the high costs and losses made on each one being sold.

Bizzarely enough I saw 2 yesterday, one in blue the other in red.

Do you think there's a Avantime website ?? If there is, I bet the "Was it you" thread is pretty quiet . All the owners could be on first name terms...
