MR2 Turbo... can they look tough?
#1
As above.
Part of me wants an MR2 Turbo for the rwd turbo action, I like being in that cockpit and they are good fun.
Another part of me says... Girly car (no offence to you mr2 owners)
What I want to know is do you reckon they can look tough?, I think they don't std but I'm thinking black with that scoop down the roof to the engine, lowered, hks exh (or similar) and big angry black wheels?

Get a turbo and drive it hard and it aint girly.
My friend has just sold one (and bought a Impreza Sport!), which had wheels, induction kit and a blitz dump valve. Brilliant fun!!
If you want looks, get a Veilside Kit.

Ive got a 98 mr2 turbo coming july, dunno why you would want to try and make it look "tough" im leaving mine totally standard.
However if I was going to try and make it look "tough" as you so gracefully put it, I would get the rear and front light kits from http://www.revision6.com

Firstly yes - generally MR2's are ghey
Secondly converting any car to look like a Ferrari is very very sad (and ghey)
Thirdly - I recently saw a black, lowered MR2 turbo with some very subtle changes and it did actually look mean(er) and OK to me.

MR2 Turbo gay? Hmmm... At what point does a car become a girly car, or a gay car? And what makes these scoobies un-gay? Mine will have almost 300 bhp after wednesday, and its a girly car? You trust a girl with 300 bhp?? Aren't awd girly cars, cos you need as much driver aids when driving??

www.mr2-direct-imports.co.uk www.neweraimports.co.uk seem to be the 2 main places. I got mine from Julian at MR2 Direct. They can souirce you a car to your own spec. This may take a bit longer as you might specify a lot of things, thus make it harder to find one. they seemed to be pretty good finding good cars to. I was interested in one, and they siad it was a pile of crap when they went to see it...

those MR2 kits which make them look like 355's would be ok if they didn't put ferarri badges all over them, that in my opinion is quite sad, leave it badged as an MR2.
As for getting one the two mentioned do seem to be the best although prestiege performance seem to be very good as well

Some people are taking the 'girly' part a bit too seriously. As I said part of me thinks they are a bit feminine looking (better word?).
As Dream Weaver has proved they can look tougher
I'm not saying they aren't great, fast drivers cars. I was purely wondering if I could create a look I'd prefer (my own opinion).
I have driven a 1990 turbo and it was modified(exh, air filter, minor boost increase), on 14" wheels with massive profile tyres(for sale at a dealer, don't know why he had these on it?) and was a bit of a handfull to say the least, especially with an under inflated nearside rear tyre.. but great fun and I love the driving position and the look and feel of the cockpit.

Oops, cant add up, anyway you got the point, I like MR2's and its not a birds car like a Tigra or Puma, blokes can drive them and not look out of place (Nothing to do with Gay or straight), I just think the whole shape is slinky and a bit feminine, they are one of the most attractive cars on the roads today imho. A blokey car is a Skyline or a Supra, all bulges, scoops and bad attitude, an MR2 could never look like that, its way too small.
I am currently waiting to find out whether I have 'Aquired' an MR2 turbo myself.
