Any of you Clio 172 owners (or any new shape Clio for that matter) had any problems with the boot lid?
My Mothers MY02 172 has developed a rattle. When i say rattle, i mean that when the boot is shut, you can grab the handle a physicaly move the whole boot about 3 or 4mm.
The problem sees to be the catch.
I was just wondering if it's a common issue?

Never had that problem with my 172??? Had a little water ingress into the spare wheel well which was from an ill fitting boot lid which was adjusted under warranty, but never no rattling is it still under warranty??

Yep, it's not a year old yet Ma and Pa will have to pull their fingers out and visit the friendly Dealer.
I figured that with it not being that old, it may be a common thing on them

I loved my 172 so much I got rid of it & will never buy another Renault. French cars are known to rattle a bit. My problems were much worse than that though. Never had a problem with the rear end.

To cut a long story short: Sudden loss of power with no warning. Extremely dangerous as you can imagine! Took Renault nearly 6 weeks to rectify the fault. After changing loads of electrical items they still couldn't identify what caused the problem but it appeared to be OK. Could't get rid of it fast enough - no confidence left.

My Uncle's 172 has the same probs as yours SAB... nightmare.

Did yours do it when cold?

Renault have'nt a clue, loads of other probs with the car, he tried to return the car for a refund...no joy - usual brick wall treatment

I think Renault have very serious quality problems with clios, as we did used them as courtesy cars. The latest being far worse cars than the 1st set of clios we had (and slower)

edited to say we USED to use clios

Slighty off topic, but still Renault.

I think Renault have a serious problem with their Customer Services full stop...it sucks!!!

I had nothing but problems trying to book a new Laguna in for warranty work (and there was loads of it!) and when it did eventually get booked in, there was never a courtesy car available. Which was great as you could imagine. The most annoying thing at the time was, I was Renaults Area Manager!!

Havent had that problem but i have had....

* 1 clutch replaced as it was faulty - weak release plate springs
* Faulty climate control sensor and fan replaced
* Air box replaced due to big crack
* Oil seal on engine replaced due to failure
* Oil seal on diff replaced due to failure
* 2nd clutch being replaced at the moment due to oil from diff seal leaking all over clutch plate.
* Centre section of exhaust being replaced at the moment due to faulty baffle.
* Ongoing problem where OIL and STOP light flicker on and off randomly being looked at (for 3rd time). Oil is no longer leaking, levels are fine so i was told to just keep it topped up. Mentioned to Renault that i thought it may be an oil pressure problem so they said they can look at it in 3 1/2 weeks time

I took the car to them last week and said i dont want it back until its fixed and roadworthy. I am seriously hacked off with a car that has so many faults, and the abysmnal service from all but one person at my local dealership. Worst of all i have to keep it for another year

Oh and its done 27k miles.

Dave

SAB - similiar thing was happening to a friends brand new pug 206 - do they share engines/ecus..

Very dangerous, trying to pull away and car would nearly stall, other times would be driving along and engine would die etc.

Peugeot still have not rectified the problem after about 3 months

Fault on my 172 was totally random, hot or cold.
I wouldn't be surprised if Peugeot & Renault use same components.
Citroen & Peugeot definitely do as various bits have both logos. The worst thing was not knowing what actually caused the fault.

I'm another person who will never again buy a Renault after loads of hassle with stupid problems with the car and a complete lack of help from Renault themselves.

Shame, 'cos I love the idea of having a 172 as a second car, but nothing could make me buy one.

I thought the title referred to the Clio 172, now I see it referred to the number of problems

Glad I decided against the 172 then, I came very close to buying one.

RB5#295 that's quite funny, although I probably wouldn't be amused if I still had the car. Got an RB5 now!

A friend of mine bought a brand-new (52 reg at the time) 172 in black and from day 1 it had problems. Within 2k miles one of the top mount suspension bushes had collapsed, various rattles from the interior, trim falling off etc. A few weeks later it developed the obligatory centre section exhaust rattle at approx 4krpm. After this both front seat mountings collapsed, climate packed up. Shotly after that ABS started cutting in under normal braking, rain sensor wipers packed up and car wouldn't start first thing in morning.

In the end the car was rejected and handed back to the dealers. What a pile of tinny, unrealiable french ****e! I wouldn't wish one on my worst enemy.

Typical Renault then.
My dad had a Fuego once - it only lasted a few months before he got rid of it. It spent more time in the dealers that on the road - persistent electronic problems. He's not had another Renault since.

I think reliability is patchy with Renaults.

We've been v lucky with our cup 5k miles and no faults whatsoever. I also previously ran an R5 for 60k without mishap. Believe it or not there are a majority of 172/cup owners with positve experience. (There are similar threads on this forum about scoobs)

Unfortunately some cars seem plagued with probs which is bad enough but worse when compounded by the dealers. I had a similar experience with an Alfa I bought - unbelievable but true - it didnt make one journey when the car didnt either break down or something broke. My sister however ran an Alfa for 3 years with only one or two mishaps.

My Cup has been excellent: no problems, reliable, very good paint finish and presentation overall. Only done 2 k though. Getting looser and faster all the time,it really is the performance bargain of the moment.

That appears to be the problem! They keep getting looser! Until it's as baggy as a wizards sleeve.

the thread isn't about scoobs, the questions are about Clio's. Why does some idiot always lower the tone of a decent discussion by taking it off topic in a "your cars worse than mine" sort of way.

There are other threads dealing with piston slap and other issues with Subaru reliability, save those kind of posts for them.

Meanwhile back to Clio's. I thought the cups were built at a different factory or perhaps hand built? Or is that just the V6's?

Or maybe none. All info gratefully received as I like the look of Cup's and I'm always on the lookout for potential new toys.

I'd reccommend a Cup as a general toy for sure, I think you'd end up driving it more than your main motor. Its is the spitirtual successor to the 1.9gti, which was my first car 12 years ago, so its a bit of nostalgia for me as well as being very fast and fun in its own right.

The price certainly puts it into the expensive but affordable toy league, and it has far more utility than other toys such as Elises etc which are a whole load dearer too.

Boot lid was fantastic, nothing wrong with it!!! As for 205GTI 1.9, had one for 10 years, great fun but not quite as quick as 172 (apart from 6 weeks).
