Didn't see the programme.
What was the justification behind the 500 and black cab?
The old balck cabs were capable of doing 2000000 miles so fair enough! The newer ones fall to bit within a few years!

Out of the list.....either Quattro or F1
but where are......
XK120 / 150 - Just purely beautiful cars
D-Type - Le Mans
C-Type - Le Mans again
911 - Still amazing after all these years
VW Golf (started a bit of a trend dont you think?)
MK1 MR2 (not my favourite but one of the first decent mid engine rear drive sportscars at affordable price)
250 GTO - ****!!!
AC Cobra - animal

This is too big a subject to simply take ten apparently random cars from vastly different era and genres and try to judge which is the greatest.
The F1 is irrelevant - unless you're trying to decide on a sort of pinnacle of supercar manufacturing
To be better the list should read like this - based on the effect and subsequent influence it on the motoring world when it first appeared
1) Ford Model T - first mass produced car
2) Audi quattro - first mass produced 4wd performance car
3) Lambo Miura - every MR supercar since has been influenced by it
4) Mini - first well erm, Mini - so influential it defies belief
5) BMW 2002 Turbo - first successfully turbocharged car
6) Porsche 911 - evergreen benchmark for everything at the performance end
7) Landrover - first commercialisation of a military vehicle
8) Lotus 7 - after 40 years still proving that lightness is better than power
9) Renault Espace - People carrier pap - but it was the first one that actually worked
10) Datsun 120 - signalled the beginning of the end for the 'great british motor industry' and the japanese invasion began.

to be fair to Merc_Cossie I think that is a pretty good attempt.
Let's face it though, this is like the 100 greatest acotrs discussion or 100 greatest brits.... or 100 greatest songs etc etc. Nobody will ever agree.
what about the E30-M3??? not that I'm biased

5) BMW 2002 Turbo - first successfully turbocharged car
###
SAAB has that honour... the BM [I have driven one] was an on-off affair with lag of unbelieveable magnitude... and if you were becalmed... spooling in second you could wait 3-4 seconds... the SAAB worked and was quite readily available.
###
7) Landrover - first commercialisation of a military vehicle
###
I think Jeep might argue that... L-R 1948, Jeep 1946... moot point I would say but worth pointing out...
###
8) Lotus 7 - after 40 years still proving that lightness is better than power
###
Austin 7 of the thirties proved that and Allard also...
###
9) Renault Espace - People carrier pap - but it was the first one that actually worked
###
FIAT Multipla of the Fifties has that honour. good list tho...

Falls off chair as Mycroft agrees!!!
Edited - cos you changed your tune you goit.
Right - Lotus 7, still in production now. Still a benchmark in its latest maddest form. Austin 7 not...
BMW 2002 - I'll stick with the Bimmer on this one - the Saab was better, but I couldn't have a Saab as one of the greatest 10
Renault Espace - read the thing.. it weren't the first, but it actually worked and didn't look too much like a van with windows.
Jeep - well the L-R was a ground up design based on the ****** GP, the Jeep was a ****** GP. I'd argue that the Landrover was better as a vehicle, went through more adaptations, applications and sold in far greater numbers (outside of Military use) than the Jeep.

Being sad, the ****** Jeep was never actually available to the public, so surely the Land Rover was the first commercialised ex military vehicle, because you could actually buy one!
Or am I taking this a little too seriously?

I am typing this slowly as I know from the comments above most cant read fast .
You have to select one of 9 listed not make your own list up .
F1 for me everyday of the week except saturdays when I would want a soarer to do the shopping run in .

Crisp... I'm sure that sitting in a garage with the Maclaren a Soarer wouldn't look down on the F1... too often.
Question... do Council houses have double garages or would you leave the F1 parked in the road?

to be honest i think Top Gear's list is a bit screwed up, i don't think most of the cars of that car were hugely influential.
heres my list:
Mclaren F1
Subaru impreza
Ford mustang
AC cobra
Dodge charger
Nissan skyline
Jaguar xj220
Mitsubishi evo's
Pug 205 gti
Golf gti
sorry mycroft your car isn't up there mate

Why the Mustang AND the Charger? surely the latter was introduced to compete with the former, proving the Mustang's status.
As Murray said the F1 is the ultimate no-compromise road supercar, but surely the XJ220 was only ever a footnote, it brought nothing new to the party except proof that a major car manufacturer can renege on a promise & get away with it. Where was it's V12, or the 4WD. & No, you certainly cannot have your deposit back
