I'm bound to be bias, but as I have a Sup and one of my mates has a 300ZX I can honestly say that I would always go for the supra.
The 300 is pretty good in the corners and the sound from the V6 is nice (especially with the cats out!). But it just doesn't seem to have the pull that my supra has, or the looks! ;-). But they are also alot cheaper than the Sup.

I also prefer the looks of the 300ZX but don't tell my mate with the Supra.
Mycroft, i read that the new engine is an all-alloy one whereas the old one was cast iron, and the article said that this is a downturn, tuning wise. Is that true?

Its all a matter of personal opinion until you have actually driven one. The 300 is a great car to chuck around, sounds odd but it really does feel shorter and more 'chuckable' into the corners.
mycroft, grow up will you, you silly digs really dont interest me.

Like all answers to questions like these there a 'YES' and a 'NO' element...
Yep... it is bad news for tuners as the motor is harder to tune and they all need to start thinking differently and we as customers will have to pay more for small mods compared to older 'well known' motors... the latest generation use different methods designs to gain further VE (volumetric efficiency) there is an whole about this on the GTR forum where we discussed the new designs of head/block/bottom end it does mean a start from scratch sadly.
Nope... already there are people producing stuff for that motor and in this Country Abbey have made an early start...

The new gen will not 'take kindly' or cheaply to Turbocharging... the real advance for these modern motors will be Miller-cycle Supercharging, their particular design is more suited to this type of performance mod than any other, whether any tuners will bother I don't know but already some manufacturers are looking to this way to big power with no real downsides.

Gotta be the 300ZX, looks better & when driving it feels like a much smaller car so you can chuck it about a fair bit.
All down to personal preference really, the Soop is bound to be better in a lot of ways because it is a newer car than the Z so Toyota had more development time. Remember that the Z was released as competition for the Mk3 Supra not the Mk4.
Had the choice between the 2 & I decided on the Z, to me the Soop was not worth the extra £5k-6k as the performance is pretty similar.
Sold my Z last month in order to buy an XTR2 but I will definitely own another Z in the next year or 2.

You'll pay at least twice as much for the Supra... if you spent the remaining cash on the Z then i think you'll find it will be more than capable of taking on the supra.
Personally i prefer the look of the Z but when i test drove a few standard ones when i sold the scoob i wasn't overly impressed. Despite being bliteringly fast it still felt too big and heavy... definitely not a car for throwing around. I opted for another 200sx instead.

Had em both and IMO the supra is a long way in front of the zx which i found to be very fragile compared to the sup , as regards the looks thats personal taste , my zx had the strosek nose , bailey rear wing and rear light conversion (4 round) it was a lovely looking car but doesnt get anywhere near the attention that the supra does , both cars seem to handle well , the 300 is very good value for money they dont seem to cost much at all (bit like a soarer then)

440hp supercharged V8 soft-top... with a rather OTT bodykit...
I'll find a more standard model soft-top... and post it up...
May I remind you that this is not the 'Soarernet' [not yet anyway ] and that the thread title has no mention of my wonderful, classy and under-rated motorcar and that you must try hard to stay on thread... even tho you are all obsessed with the Soarer, please, for the sake of the poor unfortunate souls that own Supras' and ZXs'... it is their thread even though such carbuncles are so obviously inferior.
Give them a break... they were born with no taste... have mercy on them... stop rubbing salt into their wounds.

Thanks for that rational comparison of aging Japanese Auto Trader Bargain section Medallion man cruisers, most informative.
Must admit to liking the 300ZX more than the Soarer though I would feel a bit uneasy in both. I would imagine my Old Golf GTI on Coilovers would out handle any of these overweight barges, the physics alone would confim this.
