My boss has a boxter S, and although its not faster than my old scoob (by his admission), its a nice bit of kit.
I was cracking up at Tiff's driving. He loves it!

how the hell did they come to the conclusion that Ferraris, paganinininini's and 911's are NOT sportscars? I was under the impression softops were roadsters, and anything that went vroom and was faster than superman was a sportscar!!

Great verdict Great car.
Having said that they should have split into £20k- and £20k+, because the MR2 is a good drive and quite practical, the mx5 is supposed to be good too and both represent real driving pleasure with day to day practicality at an a affordable price.

The definition of a sports car is this. (enforced by the FIA for motorsport classifications). Two seater, two door with removable top. That IS IT.
A roadster is similar to a sports car except it has no fixed side windows.
Ferrari 360's, Lamboghini Murcielagos, Pagani Zondas, Toyota Supras are GTs. Where they can either be two seat or 4 seaters, two door vehicles.
Traditional open top two seater cars back in the 40's 50's defined what a sports car really is. And no, it doesnt need 500 HP and tear up tarmac to be called a sports car.

And for anyone wondering where the TT was in 5th gear, it's not there coz it's cr*p , no really it's not RWD!
BTW - according to the FIA classifications, does a Roadster/Sports car have to be RWD?

If a scoob ain't a sports car, what is it? Saloon?
Envied by some
Hated by the rest
My old scoob I use to tell people is a normal Japanese saloon that description was okay till the car warmed up and the game was up . Bit difficult now as most people know about them now and the big exhaust, spoiler and 18" wheels give the game away.

I read somewhere recently that a cabriolet is a car which was orginally a hardtop, with the roof removed whereas a convertible had no roof from the beginning.
No help on the sportscar definition though, but no way is a Scooby a sportscar.

A "sports car" is a car that has been built from the ground up with the *sole* purpose of providing a rewarding driving experience and putting a smile on the face of the driver. This in mind, it doesn't need to have a warp factor top speed or 400bhp.
A "performance car" is a car that has been built for very ordinary purposes (eg a family saloon) but has been modified to make it go a bit faster. Cars in this category include things like Cavalier GSis, Sierra Cosworths and Scoobies. Take the big engine out of one of these and it immediately becomes very ordinary.

Roadsters is really a newer term to define sportscar (or open top sports cars with 2 seats).
Ferraris, Pagini's, Lambo's etc. are High Performance Cars.
Soarers, Corrados, TT's etc. are Coupe's.
206CC, TT, Astra Conv are Convertibles/Cabriolet's (doesn't that sound so essex? )
Scoobs and Evo's are family cars
