Boxster S vs Scoob

Posting this question on a scooby forum, what sort of response do you think you will get from the bulk of people
Similarly, post the same question on a Boxter forum and see what happens

The cars are too different to choose between on an equal basis.
However I would take the Boxster S as it will depreciate less and I've never had one. Do they have plans for a 4 seater, 4 door? Until then I'll have to give it a miss.

I think your "no pedigree" comment is a bit harsh - ever heard of rallying?
Personally I like the Boxster S very much and could just about afford one. But I will not buy one - I am not sufficiently rich that I would want to spend that much money on a car, particularly a 2 seater.
I guess if money were no object, I would still not go for the Boxster, but would almost certainly buy a 911.

If car only had to come out at weekends and in the sun I'd have the Boxster S. But it doesn't and I want a quick car day in day out no matter what the weather. Hence I have the Scoob.
What is equally amazing is the number of Porsche drivers who have to give it large whenever they see a Scoob behind them.

I used to get the impression (when I had my Classic with Tek2)at track days that Boxster drivers thought that Scoobies were annoying because they performed so well everywhere against them, unless there was a long straight to show the 'Porsche superiority'
Both are top notch drivers' cars

scoobs do have pedigree! though picture of a privateer rallying dont really prove it. Porsche however have more
its chalk and cheese though, 2 seater sports car Vs 4 door family car, you cant really compare.......both do the job they were designed to do probably better than any car in the same class.....you need both really

Agreed in the hands of a privateer now,
BUT this car does ahs some history.
Car 7 is an ex WRC, Driven by Richard Burns in the Network Q 2000, and a win by Juha Kankkunen on the Acropolis rally.
Both Marques have had success in there own fields, or should that be forests and circuits

Sorry, but Porcshe's don't ring my bell Totally respect their handling and performance Love to drive a Turbo version. There was a black full race one at donny racing against a green V8 Westy
Give me a cheapy 'Red' Ferrari 355 or 550 anyday
Tony,
Ps
I had a play for 4miles with Porcshe ( Seemed power wise about 260-300 Bhp and spoiler gradually come up at speed) on a twisty fast roads by me, he lost MY02 STi7PPP

I had an 8 mile play with a Boxster S. I was able to pull him in up to 80mph. I am quite glad however that the roads we were on would allow much more as it would have probably shown its worth.
i was actually quite disappointed that the Porker didn't disappear as i've always viewed them as the next step in performance stakes.
Either way, i was ammused at the guys face when he kept checking his mirror to see if the tin can was still behind him

Boxster S isn't my cup of tea, call it a poor man's 911 if you will. Always look like they're going backwards!!! They are getting common now and alot of road users view them in a dimmer light than Scooby drivers - harsh, but true. Not nearly as common as the Audi TTs though! Its true to say that most Scooby drivers buy the car for the performance; Porker drivers buy it for the looks and the quedos.
I still like cars that are individual and respected - Scoobs is still that car at mo!

Some class comments here.
I own both a 2002 Boxster S and a MY99 Impreza Wagon so I'm pretty qualified to comment. In respect of a standard UK un-modded car, sorry but the Boxster is way quicker. It doesn't feel it because of the chalk and cheese power delivery of the two, but there is no contest.
If you reckon you've taken on an S and won - sorry the other bloke wasn't trying. End of story.
Throw in a damp/wet road though...
Both are great cars, but they're really beyond comparison in any meaningful way.

Put it this way, if someone was to give me a car and say, you can choose only one out of the following:
Scooby
Porche
Farrari
Lambo
I would probably pic the farrari or lambo....
Sell it...
Buy myself a 22B, P1 and an STI 6....
The STI being subject to a Mega mods project

@tim - you show off flash ba$tard
i have a jap import scoob which i think is fast and love to bits but if i had to choose between a boxster and the scoob it wouldn't be the scoob. the boxster is a real fanny magnet anyways (sorry girls but it is!!) much more so than the scoob.
cheers
big sinky

Firstly, I don't *really* know which I'd have because I haven't driven the Boxster. Having said that, I did have a friendly "contest" with a Boster S in my slightly tuned MY00 (241bhp/247ft-lbs) at his boding and he got well and truly beat. Whether or not that really means anything, who really knows.....
I would say this though, I don't know of many "standard" Scoobs so it's quite likely that the Boxster is never competing on a level field as it were
So who wants to lend me their Boxster S so I can make an appraisal based on fact (well my personal opinion based on my experience )

I have destroyed many S's in My STi8 ppp. I dont know what he fuss is about. they have much more class than a scoob, but thats not what you buy a scoob for though. Up to about 80 mph there are very few cars about that can keep up with an StiPPP. The interesting artical was in EVO when they has a 911, M3, 360 and an STi8 ppp on a track togeteher. The M3 came last and there was less than a second between the 911 and Sti and it was not a bottom of the range 911 either.
