You need to get the engine to sit at the right angle otherwise the oil won't flow through it and it will get fcuked very quickly.

Loads of ppl have done it...have a look round. I may get round to it one day.

Theres a few things you may need, like a shortend inlet manifold, a dizzy adapter depening on which ecu you use.....

Easy swap, me and my mate did both ours a few years back. Move the rad forward, and you can keep the original inlet manifold. Use the MI wiring loom and ECU - mine came from a Citroen BX, and the engine has a seperate loom so it's easy to swap. A Slight mod to the neck, and the standard down pipe bolts up to the manifold. Lengthen the bottom engine steady bracket, the trick is as someone has already said to get the engine sitting at the right angle.

I had mine for a year or so, did loads of miles and track days, it was an excellent car, they should have left the factory like that.

Will be giving it a go in about 7 months time hopefully.

******* about in an XS at the moment, and life is so much better not having to worry about expensive flashy cars. So quite fancying doing the conversion after summer now.

Not into the XS BTW, will be buying a mint 1.9 gti.

if so, how much does it cost, and how long does it take?

Adam, Ecosse do conversions, but not sure of the cost. I wouldn't think you would get much change from £4k though.

Think they also do a GTi-6 engine and box conversion as well

Just make sure you have loads of security as my mate had his nicked, and it was parked amongst BMW convertibles and mercs. Obviously stolen too-order, or picked on due to naff security...

sounds like a fun project though

Be careful with the gti-6 boxes - you'll find you lose some steering lock in one direction (can't remember which).

My brother is currently building an Mi16 engined 205 stage car. He was going to run the six speed but decided not to when he found out about the lock issues. I can confirm this is the case as another friend has a GTI-6 and his lock is pretty dreadful in one direction.

Martins (Dingys m8s) 205 is a lovely car. It was at bedford in novemeber last year and upset a great number of scoobys...just goes to show front wheel drive does work if its done properly and you can drive well.

Ian.

Got a quote from Ecosse couple of weeks ago. They will source and fit the MI16 engine for you at £1750 + vat.

Edited to add in a copy of their e-mail - which includes other options.

***************

It would cost from £1750+VAT for us to supply and fit an MI16 engine into a GTI, this gives 160BHP as standard and has the option for supercharging or throttle bodies. The S16 is similar to the MI16 in that it has 160BHP as standard and supercharging and throttle bodies are both available, this costs from £2100+VAT for us to supply and fit. The GTI-6 costs from £2300+VAT and produces 167BHP as standard, this engine can also be turbocharged, suercharged or have throttle bodies fitted. We can also fit the 2.0 8V turbo engine out of the 406 sri into your 205 for you, this costs from £3550+VAT and delivers 155BHP as standard but can easily be tuned to 200+BHP.

***************

Richard.

ecosse do good work but divide all their prices by 2 to get ab estimate of what pug-performance or LAD will do. Beware Pug-performance though as they have a reputation for keeping cars for months and months.

I'd personally avoid LAD, and go to Skip Brown who are widely regarded as one of the best 205 tuners around.
