How does a 12.3 second run by a Pulsar owner at the Pod on Sunday sound.....quick for only 1.2 bar and about 320bhp! (it does have a motec though!), two other 1.2 bar "top mounted" Rs also got 12.5s. Yes gearbox is a problem, if driven like this, but they are becoming more and more reliable now becuase people are in the know how to tune them and set them up correctly. Great fun.
You here some bad stories re blowing up, but no more that scoob stories.

was it just the one that I was in, or is there problems with wind & door seals over about 80mph? The one I was in you could hardly hear a thing cos of the wind if you went over 80 like!

Yeah, main improvements required, in order are
- bigger wheels/tyres
- BRAKES (a must!)
- then more boost (safe 1bar with decat, filter, plugs and exhaust)
- Uprated clutch
- Front mount intercooler
...should get you a decent reliable quick R with about 300bhp that will last if you don't abuse it, look after it and have it setup correctly.
Then suspension depending on what you want, eg springs, shocks, bumpsteer, whiteline antiroll/antidive etc
..... with PAR or similar uprated gearbox and rebuild/pistons if you aim is for really big power well well over 300bhp. And bigger turbo, cams etc....start saving!
Re buying one, find the best example you can find, not the most modified, and most are modded now, there are a lot of dogs around that just shouldn't of been imported that will cost you a lot to run and fix....and expect it to cost as much as a scoob to run, they are not cheap and require regular servicing. I would also recommended straight away a rolling road setup at a well know Pulsar tuner to make sure the fueling is not running lean, very important.

yeah my mate skiddus car is real fast and shall be faster
their awesome buddy i say go for it , get a good one for about 4500 and then spend a few grand tuning it properly, try to get loadsa tuning parts second hand, but do get a ace gearbox
my mate daves pulsar is only 340 bhp but did a quarter mile in 12.1 secs thats faster than a diablo and a f40

The gearboxes aren't as bad as everybody makes out,I've been to 3 santa pod rwyb's this year so far where theres been ALOT of pulsars running and have yet to see one break yet or even have a problem, so they can't be that bad.Yes they can and do break but they are by no means as bad as the reputation they've got

Steve-Rob was chatting to him afterwards and said it had a mahooosive turbo on a tubular manifold. When I was talking to him in the queue he told me he'd spent £65k including the car and was built for 650bhp but needed bigger injectors to get that.

I think Mark C could be right about the brakes.
I followed one at KH and it was bloody quick in a straight line but braked REALLY early and was not quick on the corners.
A brake upgrade would probably be required - but I was impressed how fast it was, it sounded good too.
