Well pleased with that then! Went to Clifford *** Engineering in Reading this morning - really nice bunch of chaps. First comment was about how everytime they see 205 GTI's they just look better and minter, so a good start
Put it on the rollers and did the power run to diagnose any further issues since I bought the car. Its been lady owned for 65k, I got hold of it and have changed plugs, leads, dizzy, rotar arm, oil, oil filter, clutch, sorted proper K&N, magnex BB and yesterday fitted a new fuel filter which seems to have made a big difference too. Its now on 70k miles.
Power run came in at 126bhp @ 6240 and 115lb/ft@ 4400 at the fly. Well pleased with that (and it beat a 2.0 16v engine they run!). They said it was running pretty much spot on, not fueling too much, timing seems fine. Emissions wise will sail through an MOT and they needed to adjust nothing. Lovely held torque and very smooth power curve with no dips
So thats it then, car is running spot on so nothing more for me to do other than look after it

the same colour that mine was in- I miss her! I don't miss the dodgy hot starting problems though. If I ever get another I fancy one of those L.A.D motorsport refurbished cars. Maybe one day

Cheers chaps
It looks black but its Sorrento Green if you couldn't tell - I still haven't sussed getting pictures that show up the green yet!
Paul - thats some good power, but LOL at the drive back
Scooby-new - I'd avoid LAD if I were you mate, not very highly regarded in Pug circles (or Citroen either for that matter!) And besides, you can do what they do yourself, cheaper, and have fun with the project!

Best way to show off the Sorrento pearl is to use a polarised (spelling?)lense with the sun on it...
Edited to echo the sentiments already expressed about LAD... Not good.

Even my local Peugeot dealership had to be told it was green and not grey!!... and on last years MOT, once I'd already got back home, I realised they'd put black on the certificate... that was a bit of a pain.

LOL - I'll bear that in mind - MOT is due in a few months!!!
Can you get touch up pens or spray cans for the sorrento green? Halfords don't do them, wondered if you could get them from peugeot?

He had trouble with getting up to top speed since putting it on carbs so on the run home he thought he would see what the top speed was like and once we were making rapid progress it started making banging noises the front offside wheel arch peeled off and flew into the central reservation When we got back to his the sill on my side was hanging off too When it was stolen the other week they stole his wheels and dumped it on the floor so that's why the body kit falls off at speed

LOL Iain I must say there are times an auto box does appeal (they did a 205 1.9 Gentry - that was factory fitted with the 1.9GTi engine and an auto box )
Paul - *mental note to stay away from Mk2 Golf Gti's moving at speed - just in case * LOL!

Hi Steve,
Cheers. Its a 1.9 - factory power should be 130bhp, so rolling road inaccuracies and 70k miles and 13 years old into account, well pleased with 126
Cheers

Scoobyjawa: sounds healthy indeed, a good honest power output. I had mine rolling roaded in January, mainly to cure a flat spot and some minor low rev fluff. Mike at Mikeanics in Congleton (former Skip Brown guy) managed to wring another 13bhp out of the old girl, and it definately showed.
Mine's now producing a good honest 122.4bhp @6400rpm, up from 109. Not bad for 75,000 miles. Mick reckons good 'uns get between 120 and 125bhp on his rollers. Only hiccup was a little pinking on big throttle openings in 5th at low revs, cured by chucking some Optimax in with LRP (LRP on its own is dire) and retarding the timing a degree.
I still love 'em.

Hi Olly,
Thats a good result then - to some 13bhp might not sound like much, but accounting for how little these weigh, that should make a hefty bit of difference
I'm running mine soley on Optimax, there is no pinking at all, but I've not fiddled with the timing since I bought it, and I guess with that result I'll leave it well alone!
As I mentioned in the 1st post, I changed the fuel filter on sat, and IMHO this has made a big difference to the driveability/revability and smoothness of the car, along with the idle being much better - must have been well in need of replacement I guess
Me too - 205's rool

My 205 XS project is also coming along, and I have to say I am enjoying being able to mess about with a cheap car and have fun.
Fitted a load of new bits from the scrap yard, little things that have broken over time like the aerial, parcel shelf etc, fitted new ICE, done a full service, performance filter, just need a new backbox now and we're away
Also in the middle of spraying bumpers, smoothing the rear tailgate (possible, dont know yet), and considering some lowering as well later on.
Seriously considering swapping up to a 1.9 in a few months time, then going for twin throttle bodies

Nice one DW It is good to be able to play, I had an annoying rattle from the instrument panel - I had the required parts of the dash apart and back together in 30 minutes and rattle fixed
The Magnex BB on mine is rather nice, quite boomy at 3k but a nice note for the rest, my GTi one was 125quid delivered - changed in 15 mins
You know you really want a 1.9 then get the cam and head sorted first - that should give you a fair bit more bhp from it
