Cool

Spotted one of these on Saturday going through the tolls at the Dartford Tunnel. Absolutely immaculate, foreign registered in silver with the BMW motorsport stripes. Had the fins on the front wings, roof mounted wing and huge spoiler on the back.

An awesome car, wondered if there was a meeting somewhere as it was being followed by a Mk1 M3 with Alpina stripes etc which was also quite nice.

Question

Daz,

I think he means the old 3.0 CSL Batmobile from the 1970s (as used in the German Touring Car Races).

Didn't Hans Stuck race them?

Apologies if I am wrong.

Yes, Stuck raced them. I think that was the car that ended Ford's reign in the European Touring Car Championships.

I think it is translated from the German to mean:

Coupe Super Light (or similar) - there was a great article on these cars in the January edition of Classic and Sports Car magazine.

Better half has probably binned it - DOH..............

It was the old style version although I wouldn't turn down the M3 CSL! I think the letters stood for Coupe Sport Lightweight - it had ultra thin body panels and I think even thin glass to save weight. I used to have a poster, when I were t'lad, of one of the race cars airborne over a crest at the Nurburgring when they were up against the Cologne Capris which weren't bad themselves - totally awesome!
